If there are copies of components in an assembly, is there any way to break the reference between them?

So you can modify them on an individual basis. (modify one and not affect the other)

You can either make an instance of a component when copying it with "paste", or an independantly editable copy with "paste new"

However, that requires you to know upfront wheter you want to edit that copy independently. If you first create an instance and then later decide that you want to edit it indendently I dont think that can be done at the moment.

This would be a good suggestion for the idea bord! It may have been sugpested already and if so vote for it. If not then add a new suggesion.

Yes, right click on the component in the browser and select "Make Independent".

Hey machfab

Sure! For instance yesterday I accidently delete one part which was used for assembly. I thought I was deleting one the update but unfortunately I deleted the whole lot. ANYWAY.

Then, when I open the Assembly in Fusion and  unlike any other CAD software, I thought that my assembly would fall apart but it didn’t.

So, I just carefully deleted all the pieces that I didn’t want, to clean the file as max. as possible so them I saved as: and gave a different name and location. Now de results are bellow: Check the Timeline and Feature Tree/Browser.

Now whenever I change something on part model it doesn't affect the assembly.

HTH, Happy modelling.

I see this option if I have a copied instance of a component.

I'm on a Mac, but  I'm in Direct Modeling at the moment. I think the issue is that this option is not available if you are in History mode.  Possibly the intent is that if you are in History you could just roll back the marker and re-do the copy- paste.

Excellent observation. That did not come to my mind! I do almost everything in Timeline mode.

So....

If you are in History mode and the components were created using "Pattern" (not copy/paste), the component cannot be made independant?

I'ts eaasy enough to try but I don't think you can do this in history/timeline more at all. Patterned or not.
