Boundary fill tool improvement

Not much of a question but I would have a suggestion for the dev team if they find it useful. I'm using the "Boundary fill" tool to extract the internal volume of closed systems. Sometimes these systems are not simple tubes and can have multiple components or "tools" as the dialogue window calls them. In this case, it happened several times that tickboxes for the generated cells are so confusingly placed or even put one on top of the other which makes it hard to distinguish which tickbox is correct for the desired cell that I want to select. In my opinion, it would be really helpful if the dialogue window would display also some kind of dropdown menu of available cells from where a user could highlight and select desired one or more. I hope you find this solution useful and it can be implemented in order to save some swearing of frustrated users. Thanks!

Best,

Luka

I completely agree with you, @luka.novinec - the UI in Boundary fill can be incredibly hard to use.  This is on our list to improve, but I don't have any timeline for when it might get implemented.

@jeff_strater  I've asked several times about Fluid Volume and why it's not available with history enabled. What's even more puzzling is it is available in the manufacturing model workspace with history enabled. Is the reason it's not in the normal design workspace just because someone forgot to add it to the menu?

This is the manufacture model workspace. From my tests it works perfectly with history.

And it seems to do a nice simple job of finding and creating the internal volume.

It took me a while to find this "Fluid volume" tool but thanks for pointing it out @HughesTooling. And it's exactly what one needs when looking for internal volume. Maybe can dev team simply migrate this tool to the design workspace and go from there with improvements?

Thanks!

@HughesTooling - I agree.  Right now, though, adding that tool to Design is not a high priority.  I hope we do get there someday, though.

Is it just me or did the "Fluid volume" tool just migrate to the design workspace? Because I haven't seen it there before. If yes, thanks to the dev team and @jeff_strater!

@luka.novinec  You don't have history enabled in that screengrab.

What puzzles me how come it is available with history enabled in the manufacture models design workspace.

Below you can see it in the timeline!

You are certainly right, the history of this operation is still missing in Design workspace. Baby steps @HughesTooling, baby steps 🙂 At least we pointed it out so they can fix it. We earned a beer, they still have work to do 😄
