boolean operation failed on two hollow objects

Hi,

I ran into some issues when joining two bodies that share a common surface.

In general I generate hollow shelled objects: I generate the desired shape, split the object at a given plane, shell both halfs on the split Plane and join the 2 bodies into one shelled body. the last operations (boolean join) fails from time to time.

Since both object have been split in the past, they should simply join. Is thera another method to create an hollow object without a hole in the shell? I tried to dublicate the body, push the surface and subtract - works but the pushing failed from time to time.

Big Thanks,

Stefan

Hi Stefan,

You can Shell a solid body without removing any faces.  So you can skip the steps where you split the body in two, then rejoin them.  When you have the shell command active, simple click on an edge of the body in order to select the whole body rather than individual faces.  Then specify the thickness and you're done.

You can also simply select the body, or component in the browser and then shell. That will also make a closed but hollow shape.
