Boolean cut moves tool objects

Hello,

I want to cut the green objects from the 2 grey parts:

It went ok for the top grey object, now I try the same for the bottom one and when I set the boolean cut the tool objects (cylinder and/or plate) are automatically moved (down) as soon as I select them as tool for the boolean cut:

What may I have done wrong ? I also noticed I cannot move those green objects anymore.

I tried to make a "paste new" copy of the green objects but the issue happens even with those copies used as tools for the boolean cut. I tried many other things like grounding or rigid group, but I cannot make the boolean cut without the tool object being moved as soon as I select it (or them) as tool(s) for the cut.

I assume you are clicking yes when it asks you to "Capture Current Position".

Yes. I remember I was asked it a bit earlier, and I suspected my issue had to do with this capture position thing, but I don't remember when this capture position happened exactly.

I already tried to go back in history to redo differently the bottom grey part sketching, but the issue remains.

I thought remembering there was a entry in the menus to "force" a position capturing earlier. Am I wrong ? I cannot find it anymore. I have read in the FAQ capture is done automatically when an object is moved but when I tried to move the green component I received an error warning the program could not find current position for the component (and it cannot be moved).

Is there a simple way to fix what is causing the issue ?

When you use the Move command for components, there is an option to check "Capture  Position".  That will place the move in the timeline.

Can you post the f3d file so we can take a look at it?

Indeed, I see the capture checkbox in the component move window, but checked or unchecked the component won't move.

I can move the bodies which are part of this "locked" component though. I tried to move a body back and forth but then using it as a cutting tool it is still automatically moved away from its current place.

I have attached the f3d file from this project so you can check and maybe find what I did wrong.

I'm not sure why its moving like it is, but it is cutting where it's supposed to cut.

Constructive criticism?: You have a lot of moves captured para-metrically that may not need to be captured.  Create a component first vs creating a body then converting it to a component. . . . your timeline will be a lot less crazy.  You may be able to get away with using direct modeling with your model if you do not plan on driving your body geometries with the sketches (which appears to be the case).

Thank you for checking !

I should have been more curious, as you have found the cut is indeed performed at the right place.

Only the cut preview is showing the tool object at the wrong place.

Bug or bad practice on my side ? Maybe someone will find what caused this.

At least I'm not stuck anymore, thank you again for your help 🙂
