Hello derricksalmon,

Welcome to the community!

To measure a face you can select the face and use Inspect-Measure.

A similar post about this: http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/design-validate-document/measure-part-perimerter/td-p/6208387

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Hi derricksalmon,

If you want to see the dimensions of the underlying sketch you can use RMB on the sketch and activate Show Dimensions, also activate the lightbulb on the left of the sketch:

Ludo,

Why is the light bulb yellow next to the option to Show Dimension. Shouldn't it be blue indicating that it is currently off or hidden?

This is not consistent with the light bulb indicator next to sketches, bodies, components, etc., which indicate whether they are shown or hidden.

Regards,

Jerry

This is good info, but how do you show the body dimensions as you would in a sketch?  Is there a hotkey?

Thanks!

@Cowski if you mean something like this, then to my knowledge that's not implemented in Fusion yet.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.

Huh...weird you can get dimensions on a sketch but not a body.  Would be very helpful.

Thanks for replying and bringing me up to speed.

Yah, that would be awesome! You think they would have added it as measuring is a key component! HA! 😛

Hi There,

Does anyone know if this was implemented?

@Anonymous what software did you use to add those dimensions you showed?

Thank you in advance!

I haven't found that this has been implemented yet but I'm getting along actually quite well without it simply by hitting "i"  and measuring the 2 points I want to get the dimensions on.  Not the best solution, but until they implement it into the software, it will work for me.

Has this been added to Fusion yet?

Nevermind, I just figured out that this can be done by creating a new drawing and then dimensioning it out 🙂

I think he means:

creating a sketch

projecting the points from the body onto it

adding dimensions to the points

then finishing the sketch

right-clicking on the sketch

selecting "show dimensions"

I believe he is accomplishing this using the "New Drawing from Design" function.

Right click on file

Select New Drawing from Design

Insert the part with your preferred view applied

Use the dimensioning tools from the ribbon to apply your measurements to the drawing. (it is not automatic but better than using the Measure function within fusion as the file retains your applied dimensions.)

@Anonymous

Who is “he”?

Are you referring to the SolidWorks image posted by @Anonymous ?

How would you reproduce that functionality in Fusion?

He in my post refers to DSiddens.  In the thread, dsiddens states "Nevermind, I just figured out that this can be done by creating a new drawing and then dimensioning it out" but does not state how to get to the functionality.  andresGPZMB states that he believes dsiddens was dimensioning a sketch by projecting the body onto it.

My post provides the instruction for launching the "New Drawing from Design"

Right click on file

Select New Drawing from Design

Insert the part with your preferred view applied

Use the dimensioning tools from the ribbon to apply your measurements to the drawing.

Hope this helps...

Hi, good news?

I think direct 3D dimensions are a good idea and simple to implement, thank you!
