Hi There,

I thought it would be fun to this "Best of" list for the end of the year.  It's not really a best of 2024 but a best of my experience with Fusion from 2021-2024.  Keep up the good work.  I can't wait to make this list again in a year!

I would love to hear your thoughts about Fusion.

  • Why I chose Fusion over other CAD apps
    1. Integrated CAM
      • Arrange and Nest (basically the Trunest integration) and other Nesting Plug-ins such as Mapboards.
    2. Pro features without the pro price, but can go easy go pro with extensions.
    3. The look and feel
      • SW looks so Win95 graphics and UI
      • Inventor (I haven't tested)
      • Onshape is modern looking but colors are very basic and appearances are missing
    4. No worry file management
      • renaming designs anytime
      • moving designs anytime
      • undo even after saving
    5. Native constrained orbit
      • others need to add a keystroke
    6. Add-ins such as
      • direct name
      • parametric text
      • mapboards
  • Best Feature Milestones since March 2021
    1. Configurations
    2. Ability to reference driven dimensions
    3. Logic in parameter table
    4. Search filter in parameter table
    5. Show in Location
    6. Duplicate with joints
  • Best Flow Features
    1. Isolate
    2. Selection Filters
    3. Select By Name
    4. Hold left click filter + Edit Feature
    5. Show in Location

Being able to show dimensions while not actively in sketch mode, so I don't have to go into parameters to change the length or size of something and can instead do it straight from the main design, is so time-saving for me!

Happy 2025!

Nice posts!

I've used Configurations extensively in all CAD applications where I've done meaningful work (SolidWorks, Alibre Design, ZW3D).

It took the team a very long time to even get started and then a long time to implement it, but it was well implemented and shows great potential for the future.

I've had the opportunity to get to know several Fusion team members in person and through many Zoom meetings.

While it does not always come across in my posts and perhaps not even in direct interactions, if you asked me, "What's Fusion's best feature? " I would answer, "The people behind it!"

Looking forward to 2025!
