Bending sketch lines 3D

Soo... a pretty simple task, but I can't for the life get it to work. I need to create a 3D sketch in order to sweep a circiular profile along the path, but I'm stuck on the bending itself. Here's a screencast of me trying to move vector points in other axis than they were created: https://autode.sk/32uwxGc

Also posting a quick movie of the item I'd like to create.

Missing Coincident constraints at the line endpoints.

Having said that, I doubt moving sketch lines is the best technique.

Are there any unresolved issues indicated in your timeline?

I did remove the constraints before recording. But, so … you're saying that sketch lines themselves aren't made for moving in 3D-space? I did a quick trial with a spline curve, but I got really mad at the bézier curves not playing along, so I went for straight sketch lines instead.

You can move sketch lines just fine, I am simply suggesting that there is probably a better way.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

And can you post a hand sketch or link to image of something similar to your Design Intent.

you can't "bend" a straight line.  But I wouldn't do this that way any way.  this seems like a job for intersection curves projection.  see attached model-

Yeah, I know "bending straight lines" is impossible (unless you're talking about splines I guess). My take in the previous screen recording was (had I succeeded to move the endpoints) to add some fillets to the corners and then sweep a circle around the path. Your post does look exactly like I'd like to have it. Care to share a more detailed post/screencast on how to achieve? Thanks.

ok, working thru the timeline of the model I attached to previous post (your able to open that model,yes?)-

-sketch 1: spline sketch of the side profile of the object.  the construction lines at the end are so I can set up a plane that is parallel to the spline curvature at then end.  note the short cross wise construction line is constrained so it is parallel to the tangent handle of the spline.

-plane 1: construction plane on angle.  location for the next sketch

-sketch 2: profile of the object looking from the top.  the end points of the curve from sketch 1 were projected in to this sketch to constrain the length.

-sketch 3: the secret sauce, intersection curves-

laughingcreek_0-1595102399349.png

this has to be done in a third sketch b/c projections "project" from one sketch into another sketch.  the the case of intersection curves, it projects from 2 sketches into another sketch.  creates a 3d line that is formed by the intersection of the 2 curves as if they where extruded as surfaces-

-pipe:pipe command on the curve from sketch 3

sketch 1 and 2 could have been on orthographic planes instead.  But I wanted that curve at the end to be as close to a true arc as possible, so I lined up the sketch plane at the tip so the projection wouldn't be to dissorted by the projection  angle.

Oh, missed the attached file. Sorry! Will grab & dissect. Thanks for the described steps in your last post. I'll post back if I run into any troubles 🙂

So, finally got time to download and go through the steps provided. Many thanks for the clear instructions, and yeah, I made it 🙂   Now … I have another modelling question that I'll create a new thread for. Fun, eh?
