Beaker Spout

I have been attempting to create spouts on circular and rectangular beakers. Upon thickening, I have noticed a split line. Could anyone explain this? Also, I would like to seek some opinion on how I can improve the quality of the surface. Thank you.split line.png

This is added as part of the Thicken operation.  My guess is that the source is this ripple in the surface body:

And that ripple degenerates to a single edge with the Thicken.  I will look at the surface creation to see if I can find out what causes this ripple.

looking at the loft shows the problem.  The Curvature constraint on Rail 2 produces some conflicts in the resulting surface, causing it to deviate from Profile 2.  Loft cannot smoothly satisfy all the constraints on profiles and rails.

turning off the Curvature constraint and changing it to Connected eliminates that ripple:

Now, I realize that the resulting solid may not be exactly what you are after, so there may be better ways to fix this, while keeping the Curvature constraint.  Most likely that will require modifying that Profile 2 curve so it does not create the ripple.

Thank you for the pointers, Jeff. I went to adjust profile 2 and set rail 2 to tangent. In this way, I found that I could get rid of the ripple and still have a relatively smooth transition. I was wondering if I should break this up into small surface patches to get a better result.
