Basic 2D drawing

I've just started using Fusion 360 in trial and playing with the 2D drawing beta. While reading through some of the announcements I found that next month, that feature will only be available in the new Premium version. I'm hoping that you will consider leaving a basic 2D drawing/dimensioning in the reduced feature version. As a hobbyist, I don't need detailed cross-sectioned drawings, but a basic drawing with dimensions. I'm attaching a drawing of a peppermill that shows as much if not more detail than necessary. I've used some other programs that can do the design and print a drawing with dimensions, but Fusion 360 makes it much easier to design and make refinements. Anyway, thank you for your consideration.

Wow are you kidding ?!!? Getting rid of that will basically render the non-premium version useless to us (not that we're not already two thirds of the way out the door and on the way to switching to Solid Works).

You guys are really doing it wrong. Stop monkeying with the app and trying to finagle money from people.

What you’re doing is like a restaurant that’s losing business and starts panicking and screwing up the things that brought people there in the first place accelerating the downward spiral.

Step back, look at the thing, decide what you want it to be, and build something amazing that lives up to F360’s potential and you’ll have people throwing money at you.

If you can’t manage that yourselves, get new leadership who can and give the dictatorial authority to do what’s necessary. I know someone who can do it if you can’t find someone on your own.

The alternative (which seems like the path you’re on) is a very slow death spiral.

I don't think it's a «bait and switch» and it makes no difference to me either way as I've already stopped paying and switched to the «startup» plan. At this stage, we’re planning on switching to SW for our next design sprint and we’re only using F360 to redesign a part that needs to have new injection molding tools cut.

I think it's running around in a bunch of different directions without an overarching strategy and focusing more on trying to monetize than building an amazing product. It feels like a constant reactive response to where you are at any given point in time with a lag due to institutional momentum and inertia.

Build for where the puck is going not for where it’s been.

"we will be ending the Drawings and 3-axis Previews in the base level of Fusion 360".

What exactly does this mean? They are removing the ability to make technical drawings from a model, or removing 2D sketching?

What does removing 3-Axis Previews mean? Are they removing the CAM or the simulation of toolpaths or what?

I just recently started looking into Fusion 360 for cnc work, and now it looks like the two most important features are being removed.. So Im not sure if I will continue spending time learning this software now. Very sad, as this seemed like the best total package for enthusiasts out there.

Drawings and CAM are currently tech previews. Both will be graduating and become part of the product.

2.5 axis CAM will be in Fusion 360, this includes simulation of 2.5 axis toolpaths

3 Axis CAM will be sold as part of Fusion 360 Ultimate. Eventually ( first half of next year) we will sell it as a module that you could buy al a carte.

2D sketching is in both Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 Ultimate. As you state it is pretty fundamental.

2D Associative drawings is in both Fusion 360 and Fusion 360 Ultimate. There is naturally a bit of confusion on this, as the plan changed in the last week based on user feedback.

Enthusiasts and companies starting up can still get Fusion 360 for Free. So you get drawings and 2.5 axis cam as part of the free "start up" license.

I hope that clarifies at least some of your questions.

Kevin,

I am a Fusion 360 Basic user (enthusiast) since May of this year and have used the 2D Drawing feature in the past, most recently in August.

However, when I opened (and updated) the program today the toolbox icon (where the 2D menu option resides) no longer exists in the menu bar (see attached screen shot).

Has the 2D drawing option moved somewhere else? I've looked everywhere for this but could not find it.

I read that this feature was going to be dropped in Fusion 360 Basic (before AutoDesk reversed that decision) - but has something changed where it no longer shows up in the menu bar?

Thanks,

Bruce

Hi Bruce,

There are 2 ways to get to it. You can use the File drop down seen here:Fusion_Drawings_FileMenu_Win.png

Or, Right click on a model in the data panel and chose create drawing as seen here:Fusion_Drawings_DataPanel_RMB_Win.png

This is only avaialble on Windows right now but Mac support is coming very soon.

Regards,

Bankim

While I agree with you there are problems in the 2D drawing functionality your post is not helping to solve the problem.

You make broad statements without any specific information or suggestions for solutions.

This kind of post isn ot helping anybody to improve the product.

I'm not an employee or resaler from Autodesk but my suggestion to is, you need to stop postings like this because it makes you not credible and people will just ignore your

as the guy that makes generalized statements without any content.
