Bad export of .step, .igs etc?

I'm noticing trouble with the models exported by Fusion. There are missing faces when importing into CAM software. It requires "healing". This model was done completely native in Fusion. The only format that is correctly "healed" when importing into the  other software is .sat, which I don't normally use.

* I've verified that Fusion can import what it exports without problems or warnings.

Anyone experience trouble with this sort of thing?

@brockmoel

Can you share the model with me so I can test it internally?

you can reach me via info@ckbrd.de if you want to send me a fusion share link or send me a step and sat file.

Can someone explain why I see two Base Extrusions in the timeline?

What software are you attempting to open this file?

You have a line intersection - zero thickness geometry - between this planar face and the cylindrical face.

Many programs have difficulty determining the manifold solid in this ambiguous situation, and the question arises - "How would you manufacture this?"

I don't know why the second "base" feature is there. I certainly didn't put it there on purpose -- I suppressed this feature and found no difference.

Solidworks can import the file properly

Mastercam cannot open the file properly

* I've been able to import it into Solidworks and then export to .igs format and that imports seemingly ok.

Manufacturing this isn't the concern. This is cartoon-ish version of a real part. I just need the major faces etc. for certain features.

The last feature in the timeline seems to be causing the trouble for Mastercam. The "Base" seems to be ok if I take out that last feature.

I just tested a stp export of your file above and it opens fine in Rhino, ZW3d, Bobcad and SprutCAM. Have you reported the problem to MasterCAM as it seems like that's where the problem is. There were some problems exporting some revolved surfaces to Solidworks, don't know if that's still a problem but that was still really a Solidworks problem as Onshape could open the files fine.

Did you run Import Diagnostics in SolidWorks?

I did.

SolidWorks reports errors.

I did replicate the problem. SW didn't offer a warning during import but I did see trouble when I run the Import Diagnostics.

Mucking with the size of the features resulted in an Ok import -- at least without errors.
