Assembly of Assemblies

Hey guys - question about making sub-assemblies and then putting them together.

I'm coming from a background in NX 8.0/Unigraphics. Also some Solidworks. So when I create an assembly, I create individual part files (these almost never consist of more than one body, but that might be my personal take on CAD) and then put them together in a separate assembly file. For more complex designs, I generally have a number of separate sub-assemblies that I then assemble together in a higher assembly. I'm planning on mimicking this "parts into assemblies" and then "sub-assemblies into more complex assemblies" in Fusion360.

I've run into a small snag, though. I'm designing the end effector of a robot arm. I have a model of the robot arm, and a sub-assembly of the end effector. I then created a new design file to act as my higher assembly, and inserted the robot arm and the end effector subassy. But when I tried to Joint the end effector to the robot arm, all the parts of the end effector sub assembly did not move together. I guess unlike NX or Solidworks, when you bring a sub assembly into another assembly, it isn't one "solid part" - the components of the sub-assembly can still move around relative to one another.

Looong story short, how do I make my sub-assembly rigid so that when I Joint it in my higher assembly, it moves as one part? I hope this was clear.
