This is my approach.
If I want to cut many pieces out of a single sheet....Check out the strategy laid out in this thread. note unique bodies need to be in components
- Make a route component called something like "plyCAM"
- Create a component under "plyCAM" called Sheet, this represents my stock I am going to use in CAM
- I make a copy of the components I want to use in CAM and paste them under "plyCAM", taking care not to copy any joints.
- Run nester script to lay out flat (it uses a joint)
- adjust position of components
- Continue with CAM
If I am doing a single part...
- Make a route component called something like "partCAM"
- I make a copy of the component I want to use in CAM and paste them under "plyCAM", taking care not to copy any joints.
- Can add any models of fixtures in here too if you wish
- use align, move, or a joint to flatten the part as desired
- Continue with CAM
Note: you can create the cam where the part sits and change the WCS to square it to the world without copying components. I prefer to create the copy and square it to the world. For me it is convenient to turn visibility on and off when I switch between CAM and MODEL spaces and helps me stay organized.
just my thoughts, I'm sure there are other ways
