Array Adjusts By Object Length

Hello Community!

I have an object who's length is adjustable.  I have an linear array of another object that I want to adjust that some parts are determined by the length of the overall object that is spaced out every 16" on center (the ends will remain).  Do I do this array in a sketch or create 1 sketch then extrude it and then array the extrusion?  Which is best and how can I also make this parametric?

I've attached an example of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Hi caddude:  One solution might be to create a user parameter called "spacing' and have it equal to dividing your length by the desired number of divisions.  I have attached a sample file with these parameters set up.  Here is a video of this as an example:
