Arrange does not flatten assembly correctly

Hello There,

I'm getting some unexpected results when making a 2D arrange. The parts are not flattening correctly.  See demo video and downloadable file link. https://a360.co/3RLOpWg

The assembly you attached has one problem which must be corrected before it will arrange correctly.  The shelf in the center is a Body and must be converted to a Component before the arrange will succeed.  After this, the 2D Arrange works normally.

Hello there,

So I've converted bodies to components but it is still happening.... The 2D arrange is not flattening correctly. See screenshots and the demo video.

BTW I can get Arrange to work in the manufacturing workspace but I'd prefer to stay in the design workspace and figure out why it's not working there.

The only theory I can come up with is the way you created your shelf assemblies and then patterned them.  In the video I show copying the individual components of one book shelf and then pasting it behind yours.  I then pattern this copy and then the arrange works OK.  Model is attached if it helps.

Thank you for looking deeper into this @jhackney1972

See attached video reply to message 4.  It's still not working as I intended 🙄

The design intent was to select all then all remaining items until everything was arranged.   Also it's too fussy to make a copy of each comp of the original model, but a clever test idea!

For now, I will try Arrange in the Manufacturing Workspace and with more complex designs.  It seems to work better there....  but I am not clear how to export a 3d model of the arrangement to my manufactures from the Manufacturing Workspace but that's another thread: How to export an Arrange Manufacturing Model? - Autodesk Community - Fusion 360

If your model has joints, patterned components or mirrored components, I would recommend using Arrange in the manufacturing workspace.

In the manufacturing workspace, the designs position is captured and joints are not shown or in a suppressed state so that there is no interference with the components being laid flat in your 2d arrangement.

ALSO very important...bodies outside a component will cause problem with Arrange.... as @jhackney1972 discovered bodies can be hiding in nested components.  You will have to study your browser to find these.

Hi I created a reply here, but realized I should probably create a new topic. Can't seem to delete this reply so just converting it to a link to that post. Apologies for the noise! 🙂 https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-manufacture/arrange-tool-not-flattening-leaf-component/td-p/13...
