In case if I am not missing something, is there any way I can apply materials / appearance by feature and not just by bodies or faces?

Hi @Anonymous

Thanks for posting! I do not believe you are missing anything - at this time, appearances and materials can only be applied to faces or bodies/components. The option to apply appearances to timeline entities (which would include features) has been presented in this post at the Fusion 360 Ideastation. Please give it a vote if you would like to see this option!

Yes Please add back this features for Autodesk inventor professional. adding in embossing to an object that is curved in more than 1 direction like with autodesk inventor would also be very helpful.

That's already been done.

This has not been done yet. I am unable to use the emboss tool on a sketch on a bicurved plane. For example. If I want to emboss a design on the rounded edge of the side of a ring I am unable to select that face as an embosable surface as I could with Autodesk Inventor Professional.

there are many reasons why this may not be working for you. impossible to tell without the requested model.  But you CAN now emboss on a double curved surface now (there are however many pitfalls to getting it to look right)-

Here is a template tube. I am not familiar with the sketch icon you have on your timeline or why there is a red bar above it. As shown below, my sketch icon is hollow. Can you share this example model or a similar one for review? will this method carry the emboss to the adjacent faces as well as per autodesk inventor professional?

This is what I see when trying to use a similar model. I cant select the desired surface, and the example field wont show up at all when I move the active area onto the desired face

the red bar on mine is the color swatch for the component.  different components will have deferent colors.

IDK why the sketch icon looks deferent.  Are you using am old install?  or a personal license?  I'll have to check if the lic has anything to do with it (or with what type of surface can be embossed.

Ok, so this is very strange. I verified I had the most recent version prior to opening your file. when I opened your file I got a notification of the first image that new buttons were added to the manage tab, and all my sketch icons changed to the second image like what you have both on the opened file AND all my other open files. In that session I then opened a new drawing and was able to use the full feature set of the emboss tool all of a sudden! The strange part is however that when I fully closed down fusion and opened a new session I got the warning in the third image and everything reverted back to normal with the old sketch icons and being unable to use Emboss.

Any ideas on what is going on? Why would simply opening your file fix the issue globally for all my files but go away once I close the program?

Furthermore, I can open your file in a new session of fusion, but I can not open it in an already active session. I also can not reopen new files I saved after using emboss in the working session after opening a new session of fusion without the following error

Build numbers are found in the About box, under the Help menu. It looks like someone is using newer and older builds side by side. The error messages are all indicating that someone is using an old build to open new files. Is someone a Fusion Insider?
