alligning objects on a block

Hello,

I'm using direct modeling approach and I need to create holes in patterns which are centered on the block of certain size.

I know dimensions of the pattern and also for the block, but I'm struggling to find a function which enables me to select a group of objects (or on a sketch) and center it onto another plane I select. Whether sketch or plane on a body.

I'm new to f360 and every tutorial I found was about something else.

Thanks for advises.

Hi @Anonymous

you just need to use rectangular pattern in create .if any question please comment.

if this answered your questions, please feel free to mark this answer as a solution

thankyou.

Hello,

I know how to create a pattern.

What I don't know is how to center the pattern to the block (or rectangular in sketch).

Do you know how to do that?

Thanks

Thanks for the tutorial.

I appreciate it.

In those sizes, it's quite clear how it should be created.

What I meant is you knew where to create first and what distance you need from one another.

But let's just say for example, that you have rectangle of measurement 198,53mm x 98,69mm and you need to put 9 holes (3 by 3) of diameter 7,65mm with distance between center of the holes 20mm in the center of the rectangle.

These are not numbers I need, but it can explain what I need.

In this case I know how to calculate the position of the holes with pen and paper and then put it into F360.

However I'm looking for the function in sketch or in objects that allows me to create the rectangle and circles (or object with holes) and than center those circles or holes in the middle.

Basically so I don't have to do the math outside the program.

Is there function like that?

Thank you

Hi

just draw the centre rectangle and extrude then draw the circle in the centre of the rectangle use  the symmetric option in the pattern option(direction type) this will give you to daw your pattern from centre.

Other than being easier to learn and using less computer resources for large models, Direct Modeling isn't as parametric as Timeline modeling.  In Timeline modeling, you have a lot more control over how each object is placed.  For the first three months of using Fusion 360, I used Direct Modeling exclusively, then I started using the Timeline. Whenever I hit an issue with the timeline, I would switch the model to Direct Modeling and continue.  After a while, I found that I didn't need to switch to Direct Modeling anymore (except for converting meshes to breps).

Good advice with symmetric pattern.

Quite ashamed I didn't think of that. 😕

This will help me accomplish what I need for now.

I was also thinking, can you center a object on a side of the model? e.g. model is irregular 3d object and I need to place a hole in the middle of one side (no matter if it's square, triangle, octagon, circle...)

I'm thinking to select the side and hit first sketch button but not sure if center will be somehow highlighted (I'm not on PC with F360 at the moment).

Thanks,

Juraj
