Adjusting object dimensions and position

Hi, everyone: I'm brand new to Fusion 360 (and 3D software in general), but am very experienced with 2D illustration software like Illustrator.

I'm trying to do a quick 3D model of a bathroom where I'm going to continue on with a renovation. In particular, I want to model some shelves so I can better see how they'll fit into the room before I actually go and build them.

So far I've managed to create objects for the sink and cabinet, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to do a few key things:

  1. I've been able to create new boxes with precise dimensions, but I can't figure out how to easily change those dimensions once created. I found I can Modify -> Change Parameters which brings up a dialog showing every single object; however, I've given the objects meaningful names, but they don't show up in this parameter sets. Instead it just shows them as things like BoxPrimitive7 which makes it very challenging to know what I'm changing.
  2. I'd also like to be able to place things very precisely based on the origin. For example, let's say I create a cube. I'd like to be able to place its origin at 24" along the x axis from the project origin. The move tool only seems to allow me to specify parameters relative to the current position which doesn't help me at all if I don't know where it truly sits.
  3. Where are the files saved? I re-opened Fusion360 after closing it and couldn't find any way to open a file in the traditional File -> Open pattern that has worked great for the last 30+ years. I eventually found it in the "Data panel" (!!) but it wouldn't open. (See attached image.) I'm guessing it's storing the file in some sort of Autodesk Cloud that doesn't always work? I couldn't find a file with the filename I gave it anywhere on my hard drive. Thankfully after waiting about 15 minutes, it did open. But this experience didn't enstill much faith in the reliability of this service, and I think it's reasonable to expect that I should be able to open my own files when I want to and without Autodesk online services functioning properly.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's an idea for point 2. You could use joints, they will only work with components though. First make the origin visible then use Joint Origin and select the document origin, you should have something like this.

Next enter the offset from the origin you want and OK.

Next select join and pick the point on your component you want to use as it's origin.

Then click on the joint you created in the first step.

One advantage to using a joint is it's easy to go back and edit it's position.
