Adding to a Sketch

Per a prior post, one starts a sketch by

> clicking up top near the create solid icon

>  but re-enters sketch via a right click and selecting "edit sketch". If one presses the top icon again a 2nd sketch is started. confusing.

> I extrude with a resulting solid, select a face, and right click, I now get "edit profile sketch" instead of "edit sketch". This makes some sense but something is wrong with my guessing here:

I have a simple example shown in the screencast.

> I create a rectangle sketch

> close the sketch and extrude sketch to a solid

> Now I want to add a an adjacent solid

> So I select a face of the solid (or the whole thing--doesn't seem to matter)  and right click selecting "edit profile sketch"

> Looks good. I add the 2nd  object and "finish sketch"

> My goal here is to now extend the 2nd object into another solid. but it has vanished.

> Going back into sketch it re-appears.

I am clearly not finding documentation on how sketch is entered-ended-reentered. Seems like Inventor had a sketch 3D option but not the case here.

What am I missing?

Thanks

Fritz

The Screencast.

Check your Preferences, to allow hiding the sketch when consumed or not.

If the original sketch is not visible, show it by clicking the eyeball.

The top sketch icon, is Create sketch, clicking on it is hardly - confusing.

You are requested to select a plane or face, for this “subsequent sketch”

Clicking on a face, right click should have both entries in the menu, Create Sketch, and Edit Profile Sketch.

Right click browser or timeline icon allows Edit sketch.

All sketches in Fusion are 3d sketches.  Planar sketches require the Sketch 3d in the Sketch pallet to be unticked.  3d sketches lack some functionality that planar sketches have.

Might help....

Thanks Dave-

I thought I had included the Screencast link. Not sure where it went.

I found an "Auto Hide Sketch on Feature Creation"

Once unset the eyeball from the Browser turns it on-and-off . It seems like you have to check the above box BEFORE starting a new design.

Thanks for your help on this--I don't think I ever could have guessed how to add on to a design without this option. Perhaps this is considered to be an exception.

The top sketch icon was confusing--to "me"--but I guess I see now that it can be added to.

Cheers

Fritz

Changing Preference settings requires a restart of Fusion, to activate the changes.

we are presuming you are using the timeline, there are some differences when not using it.
