Adding objects to rectangular pattern in sketch

Hi Fusion 360 community!

I've been playing around with some rectangular patterns while sketching and I've run into a bit of a hitch.

When I first create a rectangular pattern, there's a parameter that allows me to select which objects I want to pattern (see first picture).

Later, I want to add new objects to that existing pattern I edited the rectangular pattern by right-clicking on the constraint in the sketch and found that the box allowing me to select new objects is gone (see second picture). So I'm wondering, is it possible to add new objects to an existing rectangular sketch?

The way I've tried to get around this is just by making another rectangular pattern with exactly the same parameters. This feels really inefficient though. Why should I have to create 2 identical patterns when it would be much easier to just add more objects to an existing pattern? The big problem with the 2 pattern approach is that, if I want to make changes, I need to edit each one individually, so it would be really helpful if I could just add the new objects to the original pattern.

Thanks!

With the pattern dialogue open, hold down the CTRL key (windows) or CMD key (macOS) while selecting objects. That behavior works in several tools in Fusion 360.

Having said that, patterning in the sketch environment creates slow models, particularly with a larger number of patterned instances. Try to pattern solid features, bodies, components.

Hi!

Unfortunately, this doesn't work in the current version. 😞

Is there another way to add more sketch features to a rectangular pattern?

Thanks

Nope - it's working just fine in the current version. I'm running Fusion on an old Windows 7 notebook. You might want to use one of the selection tools like the lasso tool.

@lichtzeichenanlage-that's not what the OP was asking.

@laughingcreek: Ohh - thanks. I got this wrong. I'm just using it not often. Just another reason to don't use sketch based patterns. 😉

Hello All,

I am very happy to let you know that Edit Pattern for Sketch now allows the user to change the selections and all other options which were provided during creation. So, basically, you will now get all the options during editing the patterns in the sketch as well!

Thank you all for your inputs. Please give it a try and let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Best Regards
