Adding a study material for simulations

I am using the injection molding simulator and want to simulate PLA as a study material, but it's not in the set materials list. Is it possible to use PLA for injection molding in Fusion?

Hi,

 

PLA is very common in 3D printing but not very common in injection molding AFAIK.

I suppose you could create your own material and use that. There must be a viscosity

profile for it somewhere and all of the other strength parameters are on the roll or easy

to look up.

How do I add new study material? When I add a material in the design section, it doesn't transfer to the simulation materials.

Hi @ejb186,

 

The Injection Molding study type uses its own material library, that is based upon the Autodesk Moldflow material library:

  • Online Material Libraries: Search the database of more than 10,000 types and grades of polymers for the most suitable polymer for your application. 

To add a new material, it cannot be done by Fusion locally and must be added to the online database as below (borrowed from a previous forum reply):

The thermophysical and rheological properties need to be curve fitted into a UDF file, that can be used by the Moldflow solver. This can be done using the ADMF (Autodesk Moldflow Datafitting) product:

  • Use AMDF to generate a udb file by yourself. For more information on using AMDF, please refer to Getting Started with Data Fitting. If you want the udb to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion public Material Database then submit the udb to us via datafittingMoldFlow@autodesk.com.
  • If the dataset is to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion public Material Database (non-confidential), then the Autodesk Moldflow Materials team can assist with the datafitting service free of charge.
  • If the dataset is for your use only and not to be added to the Moldflow and Fusion public Material Database (confidential), then a third-party datafitting service will be required, which is typically done for a fee.
