Adding a grid pattern on faces

Hi !
I've not been there for a long time. Usually, I found answers with videos, tutorials ans this forum !
But now, I don't manage to do something.
The component you see in attachement is a car inside light (old friend car, a Facel Vega 😉 ). I'll have to print it in 3D with translucent plastic.

This component is 99% finished. But, I have to add a grid pattern inside it (internal faces you can see on the picture). The grid is made with 1.1mm squares, spaced at 0.4mm.

I can't find an easy and aesthetic way to do it.....

Thanks for any help ! 🙂

I'd start by:

  1. Modeling one square in the upper corner of one of the long rectangular sides.
  2. Create a rectangular pattern using this as the base to fill that side.
  3. For each horizontal row, create a path on a curved end.  Split body or intersect may be useful here.
  4. Fill the end using a pattern on path.
  5. Mirror the side and end to complete the model.

Note: Don't use sketch patterns for this.

p.s. Use dimensions to accurately place the first square.

I don't manage to do it.... I tried as you said, just on flat sides, to start. But each time I create the sketched pattern (even with bodies, as you said no to do !) my computer dies... (core i3, 16gb ram, 4gb nvidia video card, 256gb ssd).

I don't figure out why...

Attach your file to the thread (File|Export|Archive file *.f3d) and someone can provide help.

I don't know what that link is.  There is an option to attach files to each forum post.  Please use that.

Here's one way to create the cubes on the ends:

Notes:

You can use the first midplane to mirror the rectangular blocks.

Create another midplane at 90 degrees to the first in order to mirror the end blocks.

I randomly picked the number of degrees for the circular patterns.  As you can see they're not quite even.  If you suppress the end blocks in each of the circular patterns, you can create the end blocks with a separate circular pattern.
