Add loft inputs to a profile

Hello guys,

I am stuck with, at first glance, a pretty easy feature. I'd like to design a crane base like the one below. Square base lofting to a cylindrical pylon.

My issue is that lofting feature propose me only 4 loft inputs on each profiles. Giving me this design with 1 edge at each corner

What I need is to have 4 inputs at lower profile (square) and 8 inputs in cylindrical profile. in order to have 2 edges at each corner of the square profile.

But using a  polygon with 8 sides I can show what i would like to have. Anyway this solution give me issue with polygon either too big at corners or too small on sides...and of course no cylindrical shape at the junction.

I spent few hours trying loft, fillets, watching YT videos...without any success so far.

Hope some of you will able to propose me a solution or work around.

Thanks for your help.

Instead of lofting from a square to a circle, loft from a point to an arc.  Step through the timeline in the attached file.

Note: The first loft shows what you don't want, the square to the circle.

p.s. This would probably be easier to do with tsplines 😀

Thanks! It works.

I start with the same idea of a loft arc to point for each corners. Then square to middle of circle to get a pyramide and completion wih another loft to fill-in the blank and circular pattern.

Not very optimized but the result is there. I don't see how to do it with T-splines.

@etfrench I would not say it is easier but my eyes are easily offended by mediocre geometry 😉

@l.cariouVF6EP the loft in your last post looks OK so far, but the next step is possibly filleting the sharp edges. then it'll truly look terrible. At least to my eyes.

@TrippyLighting  very nice thank you. Form is really the mode I struggle the most with, not having such detailed history line as solid mode is really a pain.
