A couple queries from a newbie.

Hi,

I just moved to Fusion 360 from SketchUp, and I'm finding it really difficult. I'm trying to make a car from two sketches. When I was trying to create the roof, I had the side profile and the top profile of it in my drawings. I traced the lines with splines, and I don't know how to combine them (Combine the width from the top down drawing and the height of the side on drawing if that makes any sense). My solution was to extrude one of the shapes, and then cut it by extruding the other. The problem with this is twofold, I only want a line but end up with a solid, and I don't know how to get rid of the rest of the solid that I don't need (it wont let me simply delete it). The second problem is that after extruding the traced line disappears, so when I need it again for something I need to trace a new one which won't be the same. I tried to copy the line, however the copy disappears as well when I extrude the original.

To slightly help explain what I mean I have attached the drawings with the lines I want to combine colour coded.

Thanks for any help.

I wouldn't design it in the model environment. I would quickly go the the patch environment and I would use the loft command a lot. And you can bet, that not all the surfaces would be nice..I guess the real designers would use the sculpt environment, but I'm not able to do such things. Perhaps this might be a source for you.

If it comes to joining profiles in different sketches projection is your friend. This post (thread) is a great source for the different projection types and how to use them.

OMG, that explains everything and more. Thanks so much! I've had my attempt at sculpt, and it was abysmal. That is why I wanted to create these 3D splines, so that I can use them as edges for a face, using either sculpt or loft or something.
