3mm recess into the edge of a case design

Hi, please can i get some help from some of the experts on here, any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a few screenshots explaining the problem and will attach the 3d files in the next post. Thanks

You didn't say if it was to be an inside or outside rebate.  Edit the sketch to suit.

Your second file is corrupted.

the main problem is, i want to be able to cut the 2mm edges of the case by ideally being able to sketch onto it but i can't do this and it's becoming a headache. I'm sure there is a way

Thanks for that. I've ran into another problem i've attached the screenshot and file. Basically, how can i extrude a face that has a curved profile. Please help

Thank you all for the help.

 

Just out of curiosity, is there a way of associating a projection back onto the body from which it was projected from?.

 

From my understanding the projections are always projected onto the sketch plane so is there a way of moving the sketch plane (offsetting a sketch plane?) back onto the original body.

Redefine the Offset Plane, Use Edit Feature, Set new value.

You can’t move Origin planes, you would edit the feature that makes the body in that case.

Yes, i'm aware of that. I was thinking more like how the when you initially make the projection sketch, it is offsetted from the body, is there a way of making that projection sketch coincident with the body that you are projecting from?.

If you decide to review my file, you will see that, your desired coincident sketch, is not required, because you can use the body edge for that.

But if you want 2 sets of the body edge, you can make a 3d sketch, and then use Project > Include 3d Geometry.  You will have to select the body edge, and Fusion will duplicate the body edge and put it in a 3d sketch, hide the body to see the sketch, hide the sketch to avoid mistakes.

 

 

Might help, but making 2 of everything might be your thing.

The projection was necessary for the Thin Extrude only because there was no profile sketch of the box.

@davebYYPCU - you might want to check the resulting geometry in your model-

@hamzanabi123456 - did you make the original in fusion?  this likely would have been a trivial exercise with access to the original sketches and geometry used to make the original shape.   the shape also has "near tangency" conditions at most of the surface transitions, indicating problematic sketches, and which will frequently cause fusion to choke when trying to apply more operations.

Thanks to everyone for the feedback. Yes, i did this in fusion, it's basically an enclosure design with a top and bottom half which will snap fit together. This is my first one so i'm trying to learn as much as possible as i will have to do these kind of designs in the future.

 

I understand it would have been easier if i uploaded the file with all the original sketches but i feel like it's better to learn by trial and error first.

 

Ideally i would want this model to go to the manufacturing stage after some more refinements to be produced as a prototype. Any tips are welcome. I can also share the full model for review if anyone has the time

Ouch.  

The sweep with guide surface fails.  Who knew.

I can't get the Thin Extrude either.

I cannot successfully make a lip with this original model. (Despite all sorts of time dedicated to it)

I see that @g-andresen has another model, that does work.

 

@hamzanabi123456 send a timeline model.
