Hi all

Completely new to this software, so am struggling on how to 3d print a screw thread.

I have created my model and looks great, however when I 3d print (export into print studio), the screw thread disappears.

Totally lost and assume somewhere i need to join the thread and the cylinder maybe?

Hi @Anonymous,

This is a common question.  Fusion supports two types of threads:  "Cosmetic" and "Physical".  Cosmetic threads (which are the default) use some graphics tricks to make your threads look real, but add no real geometry.  That's why when you 3D print them, it comes out just as a cylinder.  If you edit your thread to be "Modeled", then Fusion produces the actual thread geometry.

A couple of warnings, though:  Modeled threads can make Fusion slow (that's a lot of geometry to deal with), so use them with some care.   Second, some 3D printers are not accurate enough to model fine threads.  If the thread you are using is fairly large, or if your printer is a higher-end model, you will be OK.  I have 3D printed threaded parts via Shapeways that work very well, but the same part on a Ultimaker did not work at all.

Here is a screencast showing how to edit a thread to be "Modeled":
