Hello All,

I'm having zero luck at figuring out how to do something - making a part of an object pillow-like for lack of a better way to describe it.  And just as much trouble trying to describe what it is I want to do, which makes searching the forum difficult.  And on top of all that, I don't know how to share the design here so you guys can help.

So I guess to start this process, how do I share my design to this post so we can get started?

Thank you,

Will

Hi,

Thanks for the help.  Here's the file.  What I want to do is (for lack of a better term) pillow outward the "feathers" by about .02" from the areas surrounding them.  In other words, instead of straight-sided extrusions as they are now, have them be a more organic, soft, 3d form.  Does this make sense?  If so, where do I start.  I found the (edit face) command I think it was, but I couldn't get it to do what I want.

And also, maybe scallop the areas around the feathers by just a little bit (.02 or less)

Thank you.

Hi,

fillet is what you mean here by smoothing the extrusion, but it gives error when applying them, and that's because your sketch has so many unnecessary lines :

there are curves that consist of more than one line that should be of just one continuous line, and that is the reason the fillet fails, so I recommend you fix you sketch and then try fillet again

Regards

Thanks for the reply, and while I know the lines need to be cleaned up, I don't think fillet is what I'm looking for... rather a smooth curve end to end and side to side. More organic like a feather than machine-edged as a standard fillet.

What I understand from this is that you're seeking something non uniform?
If that was the case then loft or sculpt is what you need

Yes.  Now how do I get started?  I I think I understand loft, but totally lost on where to start with sculpt.

I recommend you before start modeling to fix your sketch, because it might cause you problems down the road no matter what method you'll use

Well, I guess this one is beyond me.  I can see all the lines, but can't edit them in any way either in Fusion or in Illustrator (Where it was put together in the first place) short of trying to redraw over the existing design.  And I'm not having any luck doing that either.  My knowledge of the current version of AI just isn't up to snuff, and I'm not that great at Fusion either.  So much for this project idea.  Thank you anyways.

Forget "fixing" the sketch. For the center part that sketch already works.

For the Feathers you only need the sketch as a visual guideline.

Have a look at these two threads. These  two there directly apply to your project.

Yes, what @TrippyLighting is saying is the best thing to do with the least amount of work

I think it may be cleaned up some.  Here is one of the sections I want to do, and a somewhat exaggerated look at the shape I want the top of it to have.  It this even possible in Fusion 360 or do I need to come up with something else?
