3D CNC Milling - How to remove stock material around an object?

Hey folks,

I've been working with Fusion for hours and hours today. I want to cut a simple 7cm x 7cm test shape (looks like a carton for eggs).

I cut it and it came out fine, but it's stuck inside a little "well" of stock material. I want to free it. What is the best way of doing that?

I feel like this question is ridiculous. It seems like an utterly normal thing to want to do, but I don't know where to look for it.

Most of the help for Fusion 360 is in tutorials (the Autodesk Fusion 360 youtube channel or the in-program tutorials) which isn't much help when you're looking for specific commands.

I can't find a simple manual for Fusion 360 anywhere - if you know of one please point me to it.

On the Geometry tab (2nd one) should can adjust how far the tool is allowed to move outside the confinement. I assume it is set to Tool Center to Silhouette in your picture. A finishing strategy wont generate toolpath unless it touches the part so I think you might also need to turn off Contact Only. I assume your cutter can do full engagement easily. It would normally be better to rough out most material with say Adaptive Clearing and then do the finishing afterwards.

About the manuals check out the guided tour feature available from the Help menu.

Hi Marc,

I belive you are talking about what 2D Contour does. If you select the bottom face as a path you can trim away the outside.

Here's the link to 2D Contour in our Online Mannual:

http://fusion360.autodesk.com/resources/akn/view/NINVFUS/ENU/?guid=GUID6996F0C6-01E0-4267-9D8B-738AD...

Here's a contouring tutorial too:

http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/ENU/Fusion-F...

Is that along the lines of what you're looking for?

Best,

Mike
