2D Drawings - Linear Dimension to and from Curves

Hi All,

First time I have commented on the forum but I have been reading through other posts that are similar to my problem, which I would just like to be 100% clear on.

OK so I have been working through the online projects on the Autodesk Design Academy https://academy.autodesk.com/curriculum/fusion-360-training-making-future#asset-section

I have been working through the Lamp Design, when I get to the drawing creation, I am asked to do this:

Drawing.PNG

As per some previous post I am guessing that the dimension showing in this image cannot be done in fusion 360 drawing environment, or is there something that can help achieve this?

Point 1 is easy enough to get by clicking but point 2 is not. Point 2 is located on a sculpted part which means that there are no snap points located at the bottom of the model in this area, only these ones below:

End Point 1.PNGEnd Point 2.PNG

I am curious to know how the person who built the project achieved this image above.

Ideally I just need a clear answer as to whether I can achieve this, so I can move on.

Thanks

Hi Cheryl,

While I am not sure how that image was produced, I can confirm there are issues similar to what you're seeing when trying to acquire points to more organic shapes.  Are you using the Dimension tool (this is the default Dimension button on the toolbar), or the Linear Dimension tool from the drop-down below that?

Depending on the point detected, the little green indicator will change.  Typically we see a box (like you see) for Endpoint, small diamond for Quadrant, circle for center, etc.  Zooming way in on that image, it looks like a little green +, this wouldn't match one of our settings, so again, I'm not sure how this image was created.

Using the Linear dimension tool you may be able to detect the quadrant close to that lower point. We don't currently offer any overrides for these settings though, so if the default settings can't detect that point, you should consider this a limitation, not something you're missing or doing wrong.

Thanks,

Chris
