123d Catch import

Hi, trying to scan an object using 123D Catch and import the 3D mesh into F360.

I saw an old 2014 thread here that said direct import not available, being worked on wondering if that changed?

P.s. sometimes it seems to me that Autodesk aquisitions and organic innovation is competing with one another, customers only end up loosing with new apps popping up every month, and rarely do they play nice.

I scanned two models in 123D Catch, upload them to 123dapp from my phone, one scan has a STL file, one does not, what is the recommended way to get a mesh out of 123D Catch into some form that can be edited or converted for import into F360?

Thanks

Hi @ptr727,

I am not too too familiar with 123D catch, but as far as Fusion goes it can import .obj and .stl files as meshes (which if I'm not mistaken are two export options for 123d Catch). Now just for some follow up questions - are you trying to upload the mesh into Fusion 360 and then convert it into a solid body or as manipulable t-splines? Both are possible (depending on a few factors) in Fusion 360. To insert your mesh, you need to make sure that you are not capturing your design history (you need to be in a direct modeling environment). Now just as a general rule of thumb, the more intense your mesh is, the harder of a time Fusion 360 will have manipulating it correctly. And I can elaborate further once I get a little more information about what you are trying to do. If you would like you can send me the .stl/.obj file and I can create a quick screencast detailing my workflow and how I would use it in Fusion 360. My email is james.youmatz@autodesk.com

I made some progress.

Turns out 123D Catch output can only be edited by MeshMixer, and MeshMixer allows export of the model, that can then be imported into F360.

So, make model in Catch, import model into MeshMixer, export as OBJ or as STL, import into F360.

I tried all the availabe export formats, only OBJ and STL import into F360.

I could not get any model to import with color, even the OBJ with color still has no color.

For somethign that should be so simple, Autodesk really made it complicated by separating the 123D and A360 based products.
