Trouble porting my JS script to Python = adsk function library

Trying to port my code without using the debugger, and my code seems to stop on this JS function which I assumed would be the same in Python:

buffer = adsk.readFile(filename)

- There doesnt seem to be anywhere that lists all the adsk functions.  Am I missing an essential refence document?

I also cant find Python version of my next code segment.

data = adsk.utf8ToString(buffer)

Anybody please tell me where do I look up the available adsk functions?

Those were some extra functions only added for JavaScript because it doesn't natively support access to the file system.  For Python and C++ you can use their standard libraries for reading and writing files.
