Export to SVG format

Hi!. I develop all my models in Fusion 360 as i am comfortable with it.
When i want to prototype it i face this strange issue - not all cnc machine companies accept a stp or step file. They ask for many times an svg or ai files.
I tried reasoning them with dxf files, but due to the design development process i have, my dxf files have multiple designs at the same time.

Can you please help me on the workflow process using which i can convert by Fusion 360 designs to a svg format so that it can be used by a normal cnc machine operator.
Thanks.

Harish

Hello,

Unfortunately svg format wasn't support yet. You can log a requirement in our ideastation.

http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/ideastation-request-a-feature-or/idb-p/125

In addition, there are quite some foreign format we support to export from *.f3d to in Autodesk 360 page. You can open your Autodesk 360 project (https://myhub.autodesk360.com) and select your design and hit "Export".

Thanks,

Marshal

I'm investigating writing an add-in to export SVG and have a question.  What exactly is it that you want to export?  Is it just the contents of a sketch, or possibly the outline of a selected face?  If it's something different how do you expect that it would work since SVG is a 2D format?

Dear Brian,

Hi!

Thanks for reaching out.

Thank you very much for taking the initiative as it will save our life  and open up for interfacing with multiple CNC machine personnel.

What we are looking for in SVG is the outline of the object.

The use case is like follows -

  • I have designed a component  "A" from multiple objects.
  • Now i need to CNC cut a block of wood for Component "A".
  • So, i will need the SVG file which shows the outline of the Component "A" along with the any holes or other clearances inside the outer lines.
  • The holes / clearances also are needed as outlines only.

Hope i did not confuse you.

Incase you need we can have a chat on Skype, so that i can explain things.

Thanks.

Looking forward for your feedback.

Regards,

Harish
