Hi I have been wracking my brain on this for days.

No Matter what add-in I Select to install via the osx package installer I get the following error.

install:didFailWithError:Error Domain=NSPOSIXErrorDomain Code=13 "Permission denied" UserInfo={NSFilePath=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.XXXXXX}

I have completed a clear manual uninstall twice and tried several different add-ins, I have repaired permissions the lot but i cant seem to get it to install i think im missing something simple I'm on an Educational License.

2.0.10813 Active Plan: Fusion 360, Student

Looking for any help please!

Are you saying that any of the apps from the Autodesk App Store are failing to install on Big Sur?  If that's true, can you try installing this one because I know it uses a different installer.

It's not you being a noob.  It's me forgetting to copy in the link.  Here it is.

I don't have a Mac with Big Sur installed to try and reproduce this problem.  Does anyone else have Big Sur?  If so, can you install the Helical Gear app from the App Store?  That will at least tell us if it's a general problem or possibly something specific to martinciaran's machine.

Hi@Anonymous -

It would be interesting to know if the folder exists that's listed in the error.

Would you mind trying the following assuming you are comfortable using the terminal app and running shell commands:

  1. Open the Terminal application
  2. Enter the following command: "ls /private/tmp"

Does it indicate that there is "No such file or directory"?

Then try:

  1. Enter the following command: "ls -l@ /tmp"

If either of these folders don't exist then there might be something wrong with your system.  Your Mac should have these folders (one is a symbolic link to the other).  It's possible you drive has been corrupted.  I recommend running "Disk Utility" to check the drive.

If the folders *do* exist, then it may be an actual permissions issue which you might be able to fix using the following command in Terminal.  When you run the command below it will prompt you for your password.  Once entered it will then change permissions on the folder so that you may be able to install.  If it succeeds, then try installing the add-ins again.

  • "sudo chmod 1777 /private/tmp"

Was this ever resolved?  I have a Mac with Big Sur and I am experiencing the same thing.  I have tried multiple different add ins, including the helical gear one linked above, and they all fail inside the installer.  The nifty doggone add in installed fine. I have the /private/tmp folder and tried setting the permissions in the terminal but no luck.  Any other ideas?

Hi @benton.oneil -

I don't know if there was a resolution.  Checking now.

Btw - I download the Helical Gear Generator from the App Store and attempted to install.  My Mac blocked the installation because the app is marked as created by an unidentified developer.  Did you receive that warning but then bypass it using Preferences->Security and Privacy "Allow apps downloaded from"?

If so, after that point is when the installation failed?

Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Yes when double clicking on the pkg file it was
blocked due to the unverified developer. You can bypass this by not double
clicking but rather right clicking and selecting open within Finder. It
will then ask you again if you are sure you want to run the pkg from an
unverified developer. You click yes and the installer runs. It is
possible you can bypass it the way you describe but this is not typically
how I do it. The installer runs all the way to the end and then states
that the installation failed. I tried four or five different add ins and
they all had this same issue.

Have you had a chance to look at this article?  I was able to get the PKG installed by updating the permissions on the "Application Plugins" folder so that my user account had read-write access.

https://modthemachine.typepad.com/my_weblog/2018/04/the-installation-failed-for-app-store-plug-ins.h...

There are steps there, similar to what I suggested previously, plus some additional references that might be helpful.

The suspicious package tool worked great and I was able to manually
transfer the bundles. Thank you so much!
