Streamlining the filing process

I posted this originally in the CAM forum, but I wondered if there might be better exposure over in the design forum. Hopefully that's not frowned upon by the moderators.... 😉

I run a business (part time for now, full time in 2016). I am always looking at ways to reduce time spent doing repetitive tasks. Whether that is getting my post processor tweaked "just so" so I have to do ZERO edits to the code once it's posted, or whatever else might be possible to reduce/eliminate.

One thing that's really starting to irk me is the posting out/filing dialog. Everytime, I need to search for the output folder, type in a new name, etc etc.

My filing structure on my computer is really simple. Customer, part name, folder for prints, programs (unproven and proven) other folders for quotes, emails, pictures. For instance, if I had a customer such as Acme123 and I made a widget for them, the g-code I just posted out would go to: C:/Customers/Acme123/Widget1/Programs/Unproven, and if I saved a print .pdf, it would go to C:/Customers/Acme123/Widget1/Programs/Prints/Fusion

I have setup the file structure of Fusion to be as similar as possible. Open up Fusion, I've set files with my customers names, and then each part file is the same name as a part file on my computer.

Is there some sort of script or macro that could be written to automate the file directory of Fusion? When I post out my g-code (or save a print), it would be such a time-saver to automatically grab the customer name and part description and autofill the File save location, as well as naming the file to be saved. I understand this would only be possible if both files/parts/everything had identical names, but that's not an issue. If customer names and part names are identical across both directories, I'd like to think that would be possible....

Let me know if I'm not clear enough in my request

If I understand correctly, I believe you would like to be able to pre-populate fields in the "Post Process" dialog.  Unfortunately this is not currently possible.  Fusion doesn't yet expose any API functionality for CAM and even for Fusion functionality where there is API support we don't support the ability to pre-populate information for a standard command.  Work is done in Fusion by either using the command or by using equivalent API functionality but not mixing the two.  It is a good request though.

I assume the same response would extend to outputting a .pdf of the print? Shame, really. Such an annoying timesink

And before anyone gets any "bright" ideas...No, the solution isn't to put EVERYTHING on the cloud......
