Compose bodies on 2D plane - some fast way?

Hello forum,

I'm usually doing staff out of plywood, all parts are just a combination of 2D shapes. But to visualase them properly I create them as 3D assemblies (image 1). They consist of some bodies (image 2).

Is there fas way to "unfold" them like on image 3? With small projects it's ok. But with large assemblies it can be challenging.

See asheepcalledgeorge's work here:

The solution uses surprisingly simple code - I may integrate it into my DxfForLaser add-in at some point.
