Batch export DXF

Hi,

I'd like to know if there is a script or a plugin that would allow me to batch export all flat patterns in an assembly? I do a lot of parametric sheet metal assemblies and it would save me a lot of time when I have 20 flats to export individually. Also, as a suggestion, i think it would be great if the flat pattern view would show the part name that is being viewed and maybe default the export name to the part name.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Your plugin has been working great for me. It really cuts down on a lot of mindless clicking.

I just started to use a basic python script to compare .dxf files between a master set of files and the most recent batch of exports so that when I'm getting files ready for our plasma table I avoid using outdated files. That way I can hot-swap only the files that have changed into a pre-nested job in sheetcam, rather than needing to re-load everything.

I think this is probably more to do with fusion's handling of flat pattern creation and dxf export than anything in your plugin, but sometimes parts that I know haven't seen any changes will get flagged. This screenshot is an example comparing the dxf outputs of a part with identical geometry in the model. Left side is the original, right side is after making a change to another part in the model, but without any resulting changes to this part. It seems like mostly rounding errors and some things being re-arranged, but I figured maybe you'd have some insight.

I really like the add-on, I'm only having an issue where sometimes flat patterns will have errors or warning. I'm not yet confident enough to use it for some critical designs.

Also, is there a way to change the naming convention through code?

@3d_low -San.

Thanks for using the add-in.

There is not much I can do with this add-in, as it only calls the functions provided by the API.

I suppose it is possible that DXFs of the same geometry could be exported differently.
I don't know how the API does it, but I think it does it in the order of the lines drawn, so it is possible that the same shape could have elements exported in a different order.

Also, if an error occurs in the flat pattern, does it not also occur in the GUI (manual) creation?

The accuracy of the numbers also depends on the API.
However, I have a small concern.
This is an error related to 3-point arcs and circles in short sketches, but in Ver 2.0.16265, circles could be drawn without any problem.

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-api-and-scripts/bug-addbythreepoints-method-fails-to-creat...

However, in the current Ver 2.0.16976, the error occurs even for circles.
This may not be directly related to this case, but I feel that there is a possibility that internal changes have been made that affect the accuracy of the numerical values.

By naming convention, do you mean the name of the file to be exported?

Sometimes the GUI won't show the error, or it will be hidden inside of the browser tree ( ex : the flat pattern will display a warning but you need to expand in order to see it). I found that deleting the flat pattern and recreating it solves the problem 99% of the time

Yes exactly. In my case i usually only name the part with the part name ( Body1-00061a-LEG-3_16-0_188IN would only be 00061a-LEG in my case). I export a BOM using Bommer that has all part name / materials / quantities

If you just want to change the name of the file that gets exported, I did this by opening SheetMetalExportFactry.py and FlatPatternExportFactry.py in VS Code and modifying the _get_stem_name function within the _get_path functions:

The highlighted portion is what you'll want to change if I understand correctly what you're after. This is what mine looks like now so that the file name is just 'bodyname.dxf' or 'componentname.dxf':

Hi,

Please take a look at the following....

Fusion 360 - Product Manufacturing Manager (PMM) - AddIn Feedback Request - Autodesk Community - Fus...

It creates, pdf, and dxf files every time you press the save button.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Kind Regards

Darren

This is life and time consuming saver!

I just got this used for big project with 130 sheet metal parts.

Thank you very much.

Hi, I have used this add-in extensively, but since the last update of Fusion it no lon ger seems to work.  When I try to turn it on using the slider button in the Fusion 360 add-ins shell, the shell closes immediately, and Blacksmit is not added to the Fusion 360 GUI.  I really love this add-in, and would love to see it work again!

I had the same problem.
A Github user rewrote the python config file to make it works in Fusion 2026. (you have to replace it in the add-in folder)
I tried and it worked for me.

Here is the link:

OutwestDesign -san has created replacement files, so downloading them again will make it work.
