3D Slices in Slicer leaving me wanting more

I'm a bit disappointed with slicer for fusion.

I'm Making large 3D sculptures from 4" blocks of foam that I'm cutting out on my router and stacking.  Currently I'm slicing the model and saving each layer individually.  This is time consuming and it is really easy to get distracted and skip a layer or miss label a layer.

I have installed slicer and tried it a few times without success.  I think some of my sculptures are two big for it because when I click on 3d slices nothing happens or it will only show parts of my model.  When I try smaller test files I can get it to work but I'm disappointed in the options for the 3D slices tab.  In all the others tabs you get nested parts in a sheet.  In the 3D slices tab you get a folder with all individual files.  It would be really nice if it would nest and give me the options for dowels and labeling the parts.

You might want to try my slicer program.  It's designed for a different purpose than the Autodesk slicer but it has most of the features you listed.  You can create holes in your model for the dowel holes and they'll be carried through in the slices too.

Brian,

I installed your script and did some tests before trying my current project.

The tests worked good. I'm not sure if you are doing any updates but if you are I have a few features that would help my work flow.

When it came to my current project I ran into some issues.  The root of the problem I suspect is I'm doing the majority of my modeling in solidworks and just using fusion 360 for the CAM. So its either my lack of knowledge of fusion 360 or how solidworks models are seen by fusion.

When I try to use the Nifty Slicer I get these messages.

I have also attached my model.

Thanks for the help and the script I really think it will save me loads of time once I get the hang of it.

Any ideas why I would be getting errors?  This program might save me hours of tedious work.

thanks

@Anonymous, Sorry I didn't respond earlier. I appreciate your feedback and will take a look. I've been busy preparing material for a class but should be able to take a look at it later this week.

I got a chance to look at this and the problem is with the model.  If you try and perform any modeling operations in the user interface you'll also encounter a lot of failures.  My program is hitting the same issues.  The biggest problem is with the small surface that part of the crotch at the top of the heart.  I think it might even be self-intersecting.  I remodeled part of the heart and was able to get something that works but I don't know if the shape is still acceptable.  Attached is the new file.

Thank for looking into that for me.  Yeah we already made the heart and there is a funny spot up we had to sand out.  I tried your model and it worked. I'm new to fusion I do all my modeling in solidworks and only use the CAM part of fusion.

One more question for you.  Is it possible or how hard would it be to have it ask for the font size when numbering the layers?

Thanks agin

Specifying font size should be fairly easy to add and would be a good enhancement. Thanks for the suggestion.

Great tool. Installation procedures slightly changed - but this should be incorporated into Fusions Slicer as default as its an essential production tool.
