Turn off Tool Orientation

I have the Student Edition of Fusion.  I can't get a 2D Chamfer Tool path to work around the outside of a block.  Tool Orientation is on, and I can't turn it off.  I have tried Compare and Edit but Tool Orientation = Yes is greyed out and I can't change it.  In the Geometry section, Tool Orientation is a Blue Box.  Clicking on it on tells me to purchase it.  This used to be a box you could Check or Not.  Now there is no option to unselect it.

Best Regards,

Brian Gracia

I am surprised by this.  The Student Edition is supposed to have all the features of a Subscription license and this feature is in the Subscription license.  One workaround is to use an extra Setup and change your over-all stock orientation to get an special tool orientation.

XYZ are set according to Model Box Point.

Can't deselect Tool Orientation.  @jhackney1972 This is what I have.  I can seem to clear most errors by myself, but this one has me shut down until I can get around it.

The picture does not do much to help, please attach your model.  If you do not know how to attach your Fusion 360 model follow these easy steps. Open the model in Fusion 360, select the File menu, then Export and save as a F3D or F3Z file to your hard drive. Then use the Attachments section, of a forum post, to attach it.

@jhackney1972, I have attached the project.  I started a new project and the Tool Orientation also shows up when trying 2D Chamfer.  Really do appreciate the help!!

Thanks,

Brian

I cannot tell if you have solved the tool orientation problem or not by your last post.  I have created and demonstrated a model where I change the Setup Orientation to get around the tool orientation problem.  The video is attached.  I am also attaching the model used in the video.  Your model is also attached but I did nothing to it.

@bgracia Here's your file with the tool orientation removed from the two chamfer operations.
Two questions remain:
- Why is your student license not letting you use tool orientation? Only Autodesk Support team can answer that.
- Why do you have tool orientation turned on by default? If you are using a template, fix it or stop using it until the license issue is sorted out. Another possibility would be that you have overrideToolView set to true for 2D Chamfer as a user default. If true, that should be changed as well until the license issue is sorted out.

@ltomuta I have not turned on anything.  I started a new file and started drawing.  I am not sure how Tool Orientation got turned on.  I have always used the student version for learning and I am not that sophisticated of a user to be playing around with any settings yet.  I will reach out to Autodesk support to get this turned off.

May I ask how you screen recoded the video with audio? I have a few projects that I would like to do and it would be very helpful.

I use Techsmith Snagit, which is a subscription application.  Techsmith, as well as others, offer free screen recording applications.  Here is a link to the Techsmith free recorder.  For others, go to the web and search for screen recording applications.  Windows 11 has a rather elaborate free one called ClipChamp but I am not really a fan of all the hoops you have to jump through to get a MP4 format.

Edit: You of course need a microphone either in your computer or external.  I use a headset.

Thanks. In the future, I would like to start a YouTube Channel to showcase my work for others to learn from as well as potential employers to see what I am capable of. I am having trouble landing a job in a machine shop because I am not available for regular 6am shift work. I am raising my young daughter by myself. Currenty, I own an Emco PCTurn 120 lathe I am refurbishing and was given a Bridgeport Easy Trax mill that also needs the same.

Now that you mention what you want to do with a video creation application, I do not think Techsmith Capture is going to work for you.  I have a Blog and YouTube video channel (link below in my signature) and you need a bit more horsepower to get the video features you may need.  I use Techsmith Camtasia but is is a bit expensive but it will set the world on fire if you want it to.

Let me know if I can help, just Private Message me.
