Problems with fusion 360 "freezing"

I have begun to have problems with Fusion 360 "freezing" so that I can not turn my computer off but have to unplug it in order to

regain functionality. Last evening it occurred three times while I was attempting a very basic function (MODIFY>>SHELL), but then worked on the fourth try.

I am beginning to wonder if some of the modeling I am trying to do as a bit of a break from the strict learning process is causing the problem. Is it possible that models with a large number of bodies and components could be the issue? Maybe the file gets too large? For example, a recent model that I have mostly completed has 191 bodies, 53 components (some of which also contain multiple bodies) and 63 joints.

The reason for the large number of bodies, both under the primary BODIES tree and within the COMPONENTS is that these models require multiple colors, and, if I understand the system, the only way to have attached bodies with contrasting colors/textures is to make them separate bodies.

     Thanks.

It sounds like the system may be running out of memory on this operations. A complex model could have only a single body or it could have 2000 bodies. It's really hard to say without looking at it. Hardware like the amount of RAM you have installed may come into play as well.

Is it a complex shape that you were shelling? Imported geometry (possibly with geometry errors)? Are there timeline warnings and errors in the design? Large patterns? You may try running in direct modeling instead of the parametric timeline environment and see if it helps.

Can you share the Fusion design so that I may try to reproduce the issue or have a closer look?

Thanks,

Thanks for giving some input. I'm not much of a "computer person" in terms
of the hardware aspect such as memory. I would hope that a new iMAC would
have enough memory to run Fusion 360 efficiently, but I couldn't swear to
it. I would mention that if I move away from working on the main body and
work on a new Component, this freezing ceases. I was shelling an extremely
simple shape, which was basically a rectangular solid which I had filleted
on one side to create a curved entry effect. I tried to shell the shape
from the opposite side when Fusion 360 froze, multiple times.
