October 2021 Product Update - Notices, Known Issues, and Fixes

Usability

  • We fixed some weird notification center behaviors that were causing some notifications to break unexpectedly.
  • We noticed that if you were working in offline mode, the URL behind the “Learn about working offline” hyperlink in the notification box right below the toggle switch was broken. This is now fixed.
  • If you are running Fusion 360 in Spanish, the What’s New link in the “you’re all set with the update” notification has been updated to go to Spanish language What’s New in the Spanish forum.
  • Some of you were having trouble sending designs from Inventor to Fusion 360 with the “Open in Fusion 360” workflow. We found a few snags in the pipeline and now it should be working as expected.
  • There were some permissions issues where if you opened a design document you had edit access to, made some changes, and tried to save the design document, the save failed on the back-end due to a weird glitch where your permissions were incorrectly downgraded to read-only access. This is now fixed.

Sketching & Modeling

  • ohyeah2389 reported that there were times in his sketch where he was able to mistakenly select hidden Sketch Dimensions inside and outside of the sketches. This got in the way when he was trying to select faces or sketch profiles. We squashed the bug that was causing this annoyance, now sketch dimensions should behave correctly based on their visibility settings dictated by the sketch palette or browser node.

Mesh

  • Sometimes when you launched the Convert Mesh command in the Mesh environment, the Resolution and Accuracy options were not available in the dialog. If you changed the Operation to Parametric or switched between Methods, the Resolution and Accuracy options may appear and disappear again without warning. Sorry about that; clearly they had no manners. This is now sorted out.
  • We fixed a crash issue caused by copying/pasting a component into another document where the design was non-parametric. This was only occurring on macOS machines, and now the workflow should work as expected.
  • We updated the tooltips for Insert DXF and Insert Mesh to now include “Select the unit type that matches the units from the original design that generated the DXF/STL or OBJ”.
  • For some odd reason, when you tried to move the mesh body from the bodies folder into the top assembly node in the browser, Fusion 360 told you that the component position has been changed and asked you if you wanted to capture that position. This shouldn’t happen, and now component positioning is no longer affected by the moving of mesh bodies.

Electronics

  • We fixed a few crash issues related to working in the Electronics Design workflows, and sorted some wonkiness occurring with the 2D/3D out-of-sync banner being displayed even though everything was still synchronized properly.
  • We discovered that True Type Text voids were being incorrectly exported to *Gerber* when they were inside polygon pours. This works correctly when exporting *ODB++*, and now it works as expected when exporting to *Gerber* as well.
  • There was another True Type/Fixed Type Text and Attributes issue where it was showing black edges in the CAM Preview and 3D PCB. This is now fixed.
  • RitchieParis told us about an interesting issue in regarding what he was seeing in the CAM Preview of PCB design. It appeared that the winter season has arrived and has started to “snow” on his PCB! We dug into this and found that it wasn’t because Winter was coming, but was due to a graphics scaling issue. This is now fixed and your CAM previews will no longer look snowy.
  • Sometimes, the 3D PCB’s back link to the 2D PCB was lost when you tried to save it as a standalone. This is now fixed; the back link between the 3D and 2D PCB should always be maintained.
  • mario.brizida was having difficulties using ODB++ to generate files to be sent to his PCB manufacturer, and after digging into it, we found out that there was an issue that was preventing Fusion 360 to generate any ODB++ output if the configuration didn’t contain any ODB++ layers.
  • We fixed a few issues regarding the package generator, such as getting a “RuntimeError” error message when selecting a package as well as the odd behavior of the dialog not being automatically dismissed even after you’ve selected a package and have reset to default layout view.
  • If you were working on schematic and used the Move command to move the Port, you would have run into a weird bug where moving a port on a module also moved random wires connected to other ports. This is now fixed.
  • Apparently “Surface Mount Pin Header (Male) Right Angle” was not translated into its Chinese equivalent if you were running Fusion 360 in Chinese and using the Package Generator in Electronics Design. Now it is.

Simulation

  • On some systems, when trying to simulate using any type of support, you were blocked from solving by the pre-check, stating that the part is not connected to the build plate. You should be allowed to mesh or simulate as long as any point of the component(s) are attached, either directly or through support structures, to the build plate. This issue has been fixed.

Manufacture

  • We fixed an issue regarding selections of toolpath geometry, stock contours, and contours to follow for 2D Contour. The geometry appeared to be selectable when you hovered over it, but was not correctly assigned to the toolpath once you tried to select it. This is now fixed.
  • Apparently if you found a design document that used tools in the Machining Extension and proceeded to open said document in under an account that did not have access to the Machining Extension, Fusion 360 unexpectedly changed the tool axis settings in the toolpaths to vertical. You didn’t get any notice of this change, which would have messed up your toolpaths. We found the bug that was causing this issue and crushed it for good.
  • When using the "Setup Sheet configuration" preview, we noticed that the print preview looked blurry. Also, the PDF was generated. Now when you print a setup sheet (either direct to a printer or to a PDF file) via an NC Program, the output is no longer blurry.
  • The Flat Finishing strategy had an improper stay-down distance issue where feed-rate transition type was set to smooth leads. Smooth leads should not be the default as it will negatively impact you when you recalculate toolpaths. Now new flat toolpaths will default to the "No Contact" transition type.

Additive

  • We fixed a layer height editing issue where the layer height of the template print setting as shown as the previous layer height in the panel, even if you’ve edited it already. If you edited it again, you would then see that the layer height was changed to the same as the new one.
  • When you ran an additive toolpath simulation, Fusion 360 incorrectly assigned a part color (orange) to a solid support structure, which really was supposed to be blue. Now it is.
