Fusion will not open any of my recent design files; PLEASE HELP

Hello Autodesk,

I am a teacher and have the educational version of Fusion 360. I have reinstalled Fusion 4 different times now and still have issues constantly with it crashing and freezing. Now I have ANOTHER issue.

I cannot open any of the most recent files I have created and I get a message saying that I need to update the most recent version of fusion. THIS IS THE MOST RECENT VERSION. I created drawings last night and now cant open them today. I can open drawings I did days or weeks ago but there are still several that will not open.

This is a major problem and I NEED these files. I have talked to tech, sent screen shots and still no solution has been given.

Fusion is such a great design program but it has been a constant headache since day 1. I cant afford to have these issues in my classroom. This will be the last attempt before staying with Onshape and Sketchup.

PLEAE HELP.

@Anonymous

Can you attach a file here that will not open?

The most obvious question - I note that you do not show image of exactly what version you are using...

Your screen shot shows that you are not using the latest version.

Here is my guess.

You are using two different machines - one at home and one at school.

The machine at home is set to automatically Update to latest version.

You did some work at home in the latest version.

The machine at school is set to NOT automatically Update to latest version.

And because of that it is using older version.

When you try to open work done at home in latest version at school in older version - you get message to Update.

Is my guess correct?

BTW - your file opens fine for me in latest version, but I note that Sketch1 is not fully defined and could use some clean-up work in technique.

If my guess is correct that you are using two different machines - you need to show screenshot of version on each of the machines.

BINGO.

I was able to work on this with my home PC but the issue is with the work PC.

I am trying to update the version on this laptop but when I click on the clock icon there are no updates availble.

Is there a setting I can adjust sot that this will auto update and do I need to do this for all the laptops that have this version installed?

THANK YOU

I work in a school environment - so I am familiar with this issue.

Our school uses a program called "DeepFreeze" which returns all school computers to original image created by IT each time the computer is shut down (or at midnight).

Any changes to installed version would have to be done by IT.

The problem is that students working at home automatically Update Fusion 360 in the background and then can't open their files at school.

To get around this (and constantly having IT update the computers) I have the students run the Fusion Client Downloader at the start of each class while I present lecture on what we will be doing that day.

...this Updates Fusion to the latest release.  Takes less than 5 minutes, but unfortunately because of DeepFreeze we have to do this every day until IT gets around to updating the computers.

After the 1st or 2nd time - this becomes automatic that the students know to do at the start of class.

Okay.

We have dedicated laptops in my shop so the students don't use this at home. They are only using Fusion when they sign in to their accounts via the school laptops.

1. If update the version I have now on the school laptops will this work?

2. Can I the current version settings so it will auto update?

3. How do I update this version/allow for auto update?

HUGE THANKS

Are the school computers running Fusion on a Windows OS or on  Mac OS?

We are running them on Windows.

So IT installed fusion on my laptop and then created an image on the other 16 laptops.

IT has uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion several times becuase it kept crashing. Maybe the issue has always been with it not auto updating. IT is unfamiliar with Fusion...

On your computer search for Fusion*Client*Downloader*.exe

Do you have a file of similar name?

I dont have any folders for Fusion 360. Just a button that opens the application. I think this might be an issue on how it is intalled? These are the only folders and they are empty.

So,

I signed in as admin and talked to my IT. There is a file labeled  Fusion*Client*Downloader*.exe.

I believe they installed the admin package.  What is the way to manage this in a school lab setting?

If we have to manual install each update I think I will have to move to Onshape sadly....

Too much of a headache.

@TheCADWhisperer

Okay I think I have figured it out..maybe....

IT installed the intall package:  Fusion 360 Client Downloader.

I read through how to use task scheduler with the proper script so it will check for auto updates.

Before moving foward with this. Can you clarify what is the difference/what is best to use for a comptuer lap/eduactional setting with multiple student accounts.

Fusion 360 Client Downloader OR Fusion 360 Admin Install Package.

Please let me know. I am hoping we can get this worked out. ALMOST THERE I CAN FEEL IT!!!

I have no choice - IT locks us down tight.  (Students tend to otherwise do "bad" things that can be a constant hassle to resolve.)

So that we do not get constant messages to Update - Fusion is installed to not automatically update.

We have to request that IT updates the lab (typically done twice a year).

Our work-around is as I described previously.

I understand this.
What install package do you use?
Fusion 360 Client Downloader OR Fusion 360 Admin Install Package.
Once I determine which install package is best we will run a script.

I have no idea what IT does.

I have already explained what I do.
