Error - The browser process exits unexpectedly

I'm tearing my hair out on this one!!
I'm getting the above message when I open, I can't save anything and my data panel is just grey. I've tried everything I can find online to resolve the issue. No anti-virus, defender turned off, firewall turned off. I've tried making exceptions for things, tried re-installing, still nothing.

Any suggestions? Pretty please??

Cheers, James

Hi @jamesRANBX,

Welcome to the Fusion 360 Community!

Just to check - is this the first time you are opening Fusion, or was it once working and now has stopped? I only ask as we ran into this issue with a few users after the update a couple days ago and are trying to nail down what is happening.

In the meantime can you go ahead and go to your help menu within Fusion and collect your diagnostic log files and post them here?

Thanks,

I've been using it for a while, but suddenly it doesn't want to know. I don't think I've used it for a few days. either way it was once working and now isn't - bit of a nightmare! The only way I've got to access what I've done all morning is through document recovery!
Diagnostic files on their way...

Thanks for coming back so fast!

Hi @jamesRANBX,

No worries at all, glad to help. Let's try a few things to see if we can nail this down. Try in order:

  1. Go to the Help menu in the top right corner of Fusion and clear your local cache. Restart Fusion. Issue still there?
  2. If so, hide the data panel. Go to the File menu, select View, Reset all to Default Layout (which will clear your saved layout and customizations).
  3. If that didn't work, please close Fusion and enable hidden folders from Control Panel.
    1. Browse to C:\Users\<yourusername>\appdata\roaming\autodesk\neutron platform\options\{alphanumeric folder name}.
    2. Rename NGlobalOptions.xml to backup_NGlobalOptions.xml
    3. Browse to C:\Users\<yourusername>\appdata\roaming\appdata\autodesk\neutron platform\options
    4. Rename NMachineSpecificOptions.xml to backup_NMachineSpecificOptions.xml

Then go ahead and launch Fusion again. Any luck? If not, I will send you the instructions for a full clean uninstall which will fix the problem. Side note - from your logs, it looks like this might be an issue with custom fonts. Do you have any custom fonts installed such as Artifackt?

Thanks,

I've completed all of that, problem is indeed still there. I do have a few custom fonts I've downloaded, I don't have Artifackt, but do have several others.

Cheers, James

Hi @jamesRANBX,

Okay, let's go ahead and do the clean uninstall procedure then. Please ensure any offline data you haven't saved to the cloud is backed up as you will lose it in this process. To clean uninstall:

  • Close Fusion
  • Download and run our clean uninstall tool from here
  • Restart your computer
  • Reinstall Fusion from this link here
  • Launch Fusion

The issue should be gone by now, but let me know if you see differently.

Thanks,

Hi,

Same exact problem I had, I did clean uninstall then new installation from those links. Then when I started Fusion for a first time everything worked perfectly, after I closed it for a wile and restarted problem was back again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Drazen

Hi @Anonymous,

Just got off a remote session with @jamesRANBX and we found out a few things. It seems that Microsoft Visual Studio Redistributable required an update which was causing that .exe file to fail in Fusion. Can you try downloading the latest Visual Studio from this link here. After running that, restart your computer and launch Fusion. Do you at least see a white data panel now? If so, restart Fusion, does the data panel appear? This is what we ran into with James.

Thanks,

Works like a charm!

Took 2 minutes of installing Visual studio update to solve the problem.

Great job Mr. James Youmatz!

The Visual Studio update worked for me.

No need to restart Fusion if its blank thereafter - just close and reopen the browser panel.
