Editable documents are not released after archiving a project.

I've archived a project that contained some editable documents. After archiving the project, those documents are still counted as active documents. That's a bug. By undoing the archive and manually set the documents to read-only solved the problem, but that's only a workaround.

Hey lichtzeichenanlage,

I'm still waiting to hear back from the team about your issue, but I have a possible solution that might be worth trying. Would you mind emptying your cache and taking another look after you restart Fusion?

Hi @jodom4,

sorry for my late reply. I cleared the cache and it did not change anything. Here is my scenario:

  • Editable / active documents = 0
  • I had a project with one read-only document
  • I copied it a twoof times (to have a project with several designs like in my initial call)
  • I changed all projects from read-only to editable
  • I've restarted Fusion 360
  • I've cleared the cache (another restart)
  • I've archived the project, counter did not change
  • I've recovered the archived project in the web UI
  • Refreshed the data browser - all designs in the project were set to read-only (not sure if this was the first time)
  • Restarted Fusion 360
  • Designs are shown as editable again.
  • Setting designs back to read-only
  • Editable / active documents = 0

That the read-only / editable state wasn't shown correctly did happen a couple of times to me in the past. Especially on longer sessions.

Hey lichtzeichenanlage,

I've gotten confirmation from the support team that this is a bug. They're logging it presently, hopefully we'll be able to resolve this quickly. Thanks for bringing it to our attention!

I am also experiencing this exact same issue. Hoping for a fix soon so I can finish my project.

The workaround is still an option. You can simply set the design(s)
manually to "read only" and then archive the project. If the project is
already archived, "un-archive" it, set the designs to read-only and archive
the project again.

Well unfortunately before I read your response I unarchived all the designs and then deleted them.  But they're still showing up in my list of editable items, and I'm still maxed out because Fusion is counting them against me.  Only now they don't exist at all 😞

Ouch - that's an even worse bug. Because what I've reported initially is
inconvenient. Your's is a serious bug that makes Fusion 360 unusable.

For anyone else who has my specific issue and access to a Mac and PC... I was unable to change the file type for my archived/deleted files to "read only" on my PC (which was the cause of my concern), but on the road last week I discovered that I was able to do so on my Mac.

This appears to be a PC bug.  If you have access to both you're golden, if not then hopefully there is a fix soon!

Nope. You're mixing topics. The problem here is, that if you archive a
project the system does not release the files from the total counter. The
workaround is, to unarchive the project and change the individual designs
to read-only. I did this many (many) times on my PC.

Well I had the same problem as you originally (archived items were not released from the total count).  Was unable to change them to read only in their archived state.  Once deleted- still unable to change their status.  Until I used my Mac, then it worked.

Ergo- I suspect this is a PC bug, but who knows.

How can you change the state of a design if the project is archived?
Archived projects are not in the data panel anymore and you can only access
them in the browser. But even in the browser you cannot access the designs
within the archive...

But they do show in the app.. you just can't change the status (on a PC).

What is the point of archiving at all if the files are still in limbo?  It's bad code, obviously.

Can you please share an image where you can see archived projects in the
app.

Well I don't have the issue anymore but when I did, every time I tried to save I would get a dialogue that said something along the lines of: 'You have reached the maximum editable projects, click here to see your editable projects' ...  And when you clicked on the link it would open all the editable projects in the sidebar, including the ones that were archived.

However, the status could not be changed (you could open the dropdown list but 'read only' was greyed out).

Now I see the problem. You think, that a design is a project. Nope. The design is a document. That's why the collection is called "My Editable Documents".

You cannot archive designs / documents. You can only archive projects.

Good grief. I do in fact know this. I regret I said anything at this point.
