Crashes when using discrete GPU - Nvidia GeForce MX150

Hi,

I have been using Fusion 360 without any issue one this device for several months. However, after a Fusion 360 updated yesterday I keep getting crashes after a few minutes or whenever I load a project or create a new sketch.

The issue only seems to happen when using the discrete GPU (Nvidia GeForce MX150).

When running with the integrated GPU (Intel UHD 620) I don't get any crashes but is slower performance as expected.

I have tried performing a clean install of Fusion 360 and Nvidia drivers, but the issue still persists. I have also tried running as an administrator.

I am running Windows 10 1803 - 17134.191.

Do you have any idea what may be causing this issue?

Below is the graphics diagnostics for the Nvidia GPU.

[GPU Information]
GPU Device: NVIDIA GeForce MX150

GPU Driver Date: Unknown

[Graphics Effects Settings]
Anti Aliasing: On
Ambient Occlusion: On
Object Shadow: Off
Ground Shadow: On
Ground Reflection: Off
Selection Display Style: Normal

[Limit effects to optimize performance]

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Andy

Hi @rezurrection666,

Thank you for posting about the issue.

Does it make a difference if you change the Graphics driver setting to "DirectX 9" in the Preferences?

directx9.JPG

Also, have you tried uninstalling graphics driver and reinstalling the latest one? If not, could you try that to see if that helps to solve the issue?

Lastly, could you send us a a crash report when Fusion crashes next time so we could collect information on what the root cause of the issue might be?

Hi @masa.minohara,

Thanks for your help.

Changing the graphics driver to DirectX 9 does seem to have resolved the crashing issue.

Very strange as I had no issues with DirectX 12 before the last update.

Yes, I have tried uninstalling and reinstall the latest drivers, but there was no change. Wondering if it is a bug with either the Nvidia driver and/or latest Fusion 360.

I would have included a crash report, however, Fusion 360 just stopped responding and had to be quit via the task manager. When reloading there was no option for a crash report.

Thanks again.

Andy

Noticed several posts where the graphics info for the driver version and date is giving the wrong info, is this a Windows 10 bug? Has there been a windows 10 update that's the real problem?

I'm using windows 8.1 and everything is working fine and I get this for my graphics info.

@HughesTooling that is interesting to see, I did think it looked bit strange.

I just looked at the update history and the last update of any kind was on 3rd August, and I had now problems until the other day.

I might have to check to see if I get any issues with any other DirectX 11 and 12 programs.

Thanks,

Andy

Hey Mark. I've noted this too, i'm not sure what the cause is but the common thread is Windows 10. In one thread the user had some Adobe products showing the same problem.

I'm betting that its a Windows 10 update.

Hi,

Thanks everyone for the help. I have managed to resolve the issue.

@masa.minohara's suggestion to change the Graphics driver to DirectX 9 helped circumvent the issue.

@HughesTooling thanks for suggesting it could be windows 10 issue, I since tested other software that relies on DirectX 11 and 12 and was getting the same issues there. I tried reinstalling those, but to no avail.

@ryan.bales I check Photoshop CC and this kept crashing on the splash screen. Fortunatly I remembered installing new software after I last used it and uninstalling this seemed to fix the bug.

Just in case it helps anyone the software causing the problem is Duet, it allows the use of an apple device as a second screen. Although this wasn't actively being used it obviously was causing some conflict.

Thanks everyone for your help and support.

Regards,

Andy

Thanks for filling us in. We've seen some problems come up recently with Duet and i've flagged this thread to the dev team.
