Hey Fusion community,
**Update as of 10/16/18** We are pleased to announce that Generative Design is now in Tech Preview within Fusion 360! You can activate the Tech Preview by switching to the Generative Design Workspace. We've added some awesome features for you to try out, including a new parametric recipe associated to any downloaded outcomes, which allows you to have crisp preserve geometry as solid CAD and editable T-Spline geometry!
Please note we are charging Cloud Credits to use Generative Design as the services infrastructure has been available commercially for some time now.
Also note that all commercial Fusion 360 users are entitled to Generative Design (including Standard, and Ultimate). Education and Startup entitlements will not be entitled to use Generative Design at this time.

We are pleased to announce the availability of generative design technology for Fusion 360 Ultimate subscribers! Generative design technology allows you to interactively explore many designs which satisfy both functional and manufacturing requirements. Once satisfied with a design, you can automatically export a new CAD file which can be used in downstream applications - you do not have to mess with meshes! The technology is truly an innovative and novel approach to design, and we are excited to extend the technology to the Fusion 360 Ultimate user base.
What you need to know:
· Generative design technology is available as an entitlement (stand-alone utility) with Fusion 360 at the Ultimate tier. At this time, it is only available as an English-only version, for paying commercial subscribers on the Windows platform.
· It is a standalone application which can be launched directly from Fusion
· In addition to a Fusion 360 subscription at the Ultimate tier, generative design outputs require cloud credits at the two key stages of the design exploration process.
· The cost to generate outcomes: 25 cloud credits to submit a study (launched with press of the generate button)
· The cost to download an outcome: 100 cloud credits per download
· Note: A typical design exploration project would cost 200 to 300 cloud credits (assumes 4-6 studies followed by a downloaded outcome). Cloud credits are included with an annual Fusion 360 Ultimate subscription but those will not be sufficient for regular usage.
Please note we display the cumulative cloud credits available summed over all contracts when submitting a request of generate or export. You need to have a sufficient amount of cloud credits in at least one of your contracts in order to generate or export outcomes. If you do not have enough cloud credits in a contract to perform a requested action of generate or export, the requested action will not take place.
If you are interested in subscribing to Fusion 360 Ultimate and accessing the technology, feel free to contact John Cichy (john.cichy@autodesk.com) directly. He will get you setup

Are there any plans on being able to do generative design locally on your machine? I'd pick up Ultimate just for GD alone but the extra cost of having to use cloud credits is a bit steep for pure art purposes rather than professional manufacturing.
Cheers
Hello,
We do not have plans on creating a local solution for Generative at this moment. Generative is a computationally expensive operation which we have optimized for our cloud compute platforms. Creating a local version would require an onsite Linux cluster, a standard machine could not handle the load in any feasible time period.
Feel free to reach out to me directly if you have questions.

Is it also available for students in free licensing?
Please make it available
