Machining a 3D open ended slot

Hi

I am trying to programme a slot on Fusion 360 but I am not have any success. First image is in fusion 360 and second image shows a section view . I want to be able to cut the slot using a 4mm  ball nose cutter. what machining strategy should I be using ?

If your set or stuck with using a 4mm bit then you can [Slot] or [Trace] with a sketched centerline. If you switch to a slightly smaller bit then you can try [3D adaptive] or [3D pocket]. but you cant use the later 2 options when the bit is the same size as your feature.

Hi @Anonymous,

I have tried machining the slot by first roughing it using 3D Pocket followed by Raster toolpath single pass with tool 3.96 mm Diameter. The toolpath do left some material at the slot curvature due to geometry of slot. This can then be further rest machine using a 2mm Diameter tool. 

Please find attached a modified project with the mentioned toolpaths.

How do I trace the slot so that it would finish it in 1 smooth path ?

Thanks for the kind words. There are days that I still feel like a complete noob.....

There are no books, only loads of YouTube videos. A lot of what I learned was through helping out people just like you, along with the needs of my own shop. Basically, keep at it, ask questions, be open to new methods. All you really need to excel in this powerful software.
