Helix ramp and rest machining

It is confusing what they have in common. I am using a 3d adaptive clearing and would like to have a tool to helix ramp. It does it only when rest machining is on. If I don't use rest machining, it plunges. 

Wondering is there a way of having helix rump without rest machining?

First, you want to make sure your Setup has the Model selected that you want to machine, and not the Stock Model as well. I most applications, there isn't the need to select "Model" inside the toolpath operation.

Second, you can just turn on "Stock Contours" and it will helix:

And if you want it to hold to a different stock contour, just create the appropriate shape and select that when you click "Stock Contours"

Yes you caught me. 🙂 I used your approach and silhouette to make it work as I wanted.
