Parameters dialog not blocking

Parameters dialog not blocking

Hi all,

I would like to see the Parameters dialog as a floating, non blocking tool, that I can keep open on my second screen while continuing to design in the main window.

This way it would be a lot easier to check the values against the design, instead of having to open the window, changing the numbers, adding / deleting parameters and then closing it just to the the reflection on the design. Because there is also no "auto completion" or "parameter suggestion" feature inside the design I have to open the paramters dialog just to remember the paramters names. With an "always open" dialog this would be a lot easier.

Bye,
Martin

Upvoted but totally agreed. They could almost stand to be in a special toolbox panel that's just always there.

Please refer to this post - http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/fusion-360-ideastation-request-a/keep-parameters-window-open-all-the-t...

Would this something you'd be open to?

I don't think that another folder inside the browser is such a great idea. The whole workflow of creating components, sub-components or top-level bodies is so confusing and not streamlined at this point (having to pay attention what component is "activated" when you just want to add quickly a sketch or otherwise you end up with a sketch at the wrong place, unable to move it, etc.) that I have a bad feeling to clutter the browser with another folder / folder-type.

I would like to see a dock-able, seperate window, that can be shown side by side with the drawing area. I know, it is against this current philosophie, but to be honest: All the free floating views makes the large drawing area useless anyway - especially without a good and customizable shortcut support.

I'm also skeptical about putting something in the browser.. but I could see it working if it was done well (though I struggle to imagine what that might look and act like).

Wherever it goes and however it works, it should be very well thought through because it'll have a huge impact in whether or not people use parametrics in their designs. The current form is so awkward that I only rarely do now (actually - it doesn't help that to date, I've never successfully managed to keep parametrics working for a nontrivial design).

Yeah, that is my problem with parametrics, too.

I think it is a huge factor if Fusion 360 is really going to be professional CAM and industrial construction application, or just a bad "NURBS" modelling tool, with rudimentary sketching capabilities and some fancy yet useless CAM simulations.

The parameters should be a panel instead of a blocking dialog box.

Thank you for your idea, this idea is being changed to future consideration.  We have a plan to be able to display/edit your favorite parameters in a folder in the browser.  This would allow you access to your favorite parameters without needing to have the parameter dialog box open.  When work gets started to this the idea will be changed to accepted.

Cheers,

Mike Prom

I would much prefer to keep the separate window as it is, but allow it to stay open.  That way I could keep it open on my second monitor and really improve workflow.  Putting it into the browser would just be cramming more important stuff into an already crowded area.  With more and more people having multiple monitors, I'd like to see the flexibility to utilize the extra space.

Thanks for the consideration.

Pretty sure that might be what Martin is asking for @Anonymous

@Anonymous That was what I was asking for! 🙂

Putting it into the browser is a bad idea @promm

@MartinMajewski @roambotics_scott  Agreed!  I was just trying to clarify that making the window non-blocking (as you put it) is the right approach (i.e. putting them in the browser is NOT what we're looking for).  @keqingsong posted a link to a similar suggestion where the devs were talking about putting the parameters in the browser and I wanted to put in my two bits that Martin's original suggestion is far better.

Cheers

This sunk too much. That's a nice idea.

+1 This would be ridiculously useful.
