Did you mean:

zoom in/out to center

zoom in/out to center

simple idea - when trying to draw something and need to access an area off screen you have to actually zoom out in the oppisite direct you want to head, then zoom back in to that area.. or go through a bunch of clicking to move the current viewable area.. why not have zoom in/zoom out to center.. meaning where ever your mouse is set instead of zooming in ON it.. zoom in, but shift toward center of the viewable area...

not sure if I discribed this correctly but you should be able to get the point. it's actually a much more natural maneuver

so basically, like here in my video.. I'd be able to keep my mouse where it is, but the area the mouse is on would shift toward the center as I zoomed out,.. this way you'd avoid the whole reverse direction movement to get the area I need access to on the screen..

Ugg.. this system of posting is made more complicated than it needs to be!

I had the screencast linked, but then the word "zoom" wasn't allowed and when it popped the error it deleted the screencast.. really?

and now I can edit the above post?

EDIT- OK. found it.. still kinda weird and normal things are hidden in strange places.. but that off track of the main subject of the post soo... forget all the web stuff and lets use the Fusion 360 subject  🙂

Pretty much the same thing I was asking for with my idea. Zooming out is the real issue, it makes no sense to have to move your mouse away from where you were working just to get the model back into the view area. I know a lot of programs work this way but even Google Earth ends up centering the planet once you zoom far away enough.

Ya, never use SW but seems like you're looking for the same action to happen in zooming.   Just started looking at Meshmixer and it is much more intuitive in its zooming so it seems they have the idea.. 🙂

Meshmixer just seems to zoom in and out to the center of the viewport which I really don't like... 😉

Zooming and scrolling in F360 (especially with a trackpad) has been and remains maddening. It just needs to be rethought and redone from the ground up not patched and duct taped

(also agreed on the forum comments)

Totally agree, the centre of the displayed area should be the position of the mouse when the zoom begins. Please action this modification, it ought to be pretty simple, it's only a matter of offsets.

One could have settings to allow the current (dare I say naff) slow/inefficient method or the proposed method.

Any movement on this? The OP poses a concern which is frustrating to me. Kicad has the right idea about zooming (PCBNew and EESchema). When you first roll the mouse wheel, the screen centers on the mouse. Thus, the point where you are zooming on the object becomes the center of the screen and the center of focus.

Navigation has replaced instability and is still one of the biggest issues we continue to have with F350
