Tolerence when Extruding

Tolerence when Extruding

Hi

Can we have to ability to add a 'tolerance' value to the extrude command?

I am modelling a shape that need to be fitted into a hole (dash board and a dial). It would be great if I could sketch the dials to size then when I come to extrude them have the option for the corresponding hole to be oversized by a nominal value - ideally from parameters.

This oversize could them be followed through and stated in drawings by using the initial sketch dimension and the oversize extruded dimension.

Thanks

Matt

I like this as a basic suggestion, but in thinking it through in how to implement it seems a little difficult to get it right often enough to be useful. So I would like to offer a tip that I use in lieu of the "fix" requested: Go into the global parameters dialog (the big Summation "E" looking thing in the 'Solid' menu) and define a "Tolerance" parameter. Or more than one if you have multiple tolerances (which is why the feature would be hard to automate). And then in your dimensions whenever you edit the value simply include +/- (as appropriate) "Tolerance". So if you want it to be a little larger than the specified diameter (as an example) you would put in "HoleDiameter + Tolerance" and it would use the value of the "Tolerance" parameter, whatever you set it to be, and the cool thing is you can easily change the tolerance later on just by editing the parameter value.
