TABS between operations and add centerline adjustability

TABS between operations and add centerline adjustability

Hello folks,

I've been working with a lot of 3D sculpted objects lately and it would be nice to see the TABS functionality for wood holding in a better state. I've been using a CNC router to carve thin 3D objects out of walnut. I need holding tabs.

- Tabs only seem to be available in contour operation. There are many time that I don't need to use contour to make a 3D part with sloping edges.

- Tabs should be universally seen by all operations so no operation cuts them away, and certainly from setup to setup. If I cut on the flip side of a part, all of my operations on the other side should also be aware once a tab is set. Perhaps tabs should be it's own operation and once setup, all subsequent operations know not to cut them away. As it stands, it's terribly hit or miss.

- Sometimes I don't really need a contour operation because my parallel or similar 3D operation is cleaning up the sides of the part. there are no tab options in parallel, for example.

- TAB functionality should be smarter. I do a lot of 2 sided parts in wood and the tabs by default are vertically positioned on top of the component's origin plane. When doing a two sided part, you need the tab to hold from both sides. A check box, "center tabs vertically," would be swanky, but allowing fully manual adjustment vertical placement of the tabs would also be great.

- Or maybe Fusion could be smart enough to detect opposing Z setups on the same part and know that it should vertically center the tabs?

I think I can get around some of these issues by creating little blocks in the model space and selecting them to be avoided in the CAM space, but this makes things complicated when selecting boundaries for operations and is not an ideal approach.

Just my two cents.

I love FUSION 360!

I've attached a brief video depicting these ideas and issues.

Cheers!
